Re: Is Alaska struggling at SFO?

In four weeks AS will have all of T2 at SFO to itself, although they seem to be shrinking. Meanwhile B6 now has more room to grow at Harvey Milk - did AS really stymie B6 growth potential? No they won't have all of T2 to themselves...AS is getting 2 or 3 additional gates but UA is getting the rest....

I do think it's strange that AS can't make KOA work from SFO, but they can from OAK/SJC. It seems like they would want to keep it to compete with UA.

SFO 2019 Traffic Numbers

https://www.flysfo.com/media/facts-stat ... stics/2019

Based on this the airport handled 57.488M, which is less than 2018. Does anyone know why this would have decreased? Norwegian moved flights from OAK, and others started numerous routes/frequencies.

NK starting FLL-OAK might be the first non-stop that I can think of, unless B6 flew it at some point. And it's interesting that WN doesn't do much transcon from FLL.

AS lops off a frequency on SFO-SNA from 6 to 5. Just one flight. But continues with the previous optics of cuts on former Virgin markets for AS. Actually AS added this 4x daily after the merger. VX tried it years ago and cut it in its own: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ocregister.com/2010/03/18/...

I can see UA adding SFO-MEL in the near future to match the new Qantas 787 service, while also retaining LAX-MEL. So AS will never ever consider acquiring some 788's to compete with DL internationally out of PDX/SEA, or with UA out of SFO? I'm not really comprehending how they thought that they would capture the VX crowd once they stripped the VX aesthetic without a true international network.
