It's a fair question.....and I'll add one....what causes the "whoooomp" sound made by 757s as they are descending....I've heard several times through the years. Not sure of the altitude but less than 20k.

The Lockheed L-188 Electra had severe structural deficiencies and several crashes (NW Tell City Indiana comes to mind). Investigation led to modifications and the plane went to have a good safety record with several airlines and with the US Navy as the P-3.

Does anyone have any information on the NWA 747 Freighter fleet? It was my impression that some of the older ones (the original 3 were delivered in the 70's) are truly old in terms of hours. Is there any talk of a replacement for these workhorses?
