A few years back, LH used to have hubs/focus cities in several other German cities (HAM, TXL, DUS, probably more???), but chose to centralise mainline operations to FRA and MUC, and leave the rest to Germanwings and Eurowings.

If the price is right, passengers will still fly with AY. Lately the EU3 have some pretty sweet deals ex.Japan to North America (via EU of course), and people are more than happy to save $150 and spend 23+ hours travelling.

The most interesting (non conspiratorial) thing these rumors have made me realize is that there aren't really any domestic passenger redeyes in China. Freight yes, international passenger yes, but no domestic redeyes in China. I would have expected something like Urumqi-Beijing or even Chengdu-Shen...

They only have 5 of them, and have only restarted using them on routes including JFK. Have they ever flown them regularly to SFO? Don't believe it's ever gone to SFO. QF is returning to HND after 2.5 years tonight (12 Sep). VH-QPB is doing the honours. With fleet capacity the way it is right now, I'm quite surprised QF are still having the aircraft sit on the ground all day at HND, rather than using their evening arrival slot. Anyway, good luck to them!

ANA requires face masks be worn on all flights. Otherwise, you only need to worry about entry requirements for Malaysia. You don't need to do anything specific for Japan.

News about passengers stuck in NRT due to the JQ issues too. Due to Japan's border restrictions, several passengers couldn't leave the terminal for 24 hours. I personally see them going with some more B787-9 or A350-900. These aircraft have the legs for routes like MEL-DFW or PER-FRA but can easily handle quick trips to Asia as well. Configured similar to the A330-300 now, it could be a winner. They could even add Premium Economy and still fit around 300...

Airside HND T3 is literally just another airport with most restaurants/stores closed. HND is wayyy nicer than NRT though, so at least there's that.

I don’t understand the QF2 retime. The only thing I can think of is there aren’t enough staff to cover the 10pm departure, so brining it forward means there are staff at security / ground. QF is trying to work around the 100,000 passengers per day cap through Heathrow. Instead of passenger shedding...

Of the 15 615-seater A380 at EK, only 4 have been active over the past few weeks, operating to LGW (not LHR), MAN, BKK and AMM.
