Re: United Airlines nears order for over 100 widebody jets - Bloomberg News

A350 is strong candidate to replace 777s. Airbus has reduced 3 tons weight from A350. 787 strong candidate to replace 767,777 with choice of engines, but BA needs to launch an IGW version. 787-10 is lacking range for long haul routes. If Boeing can offer 787igw with good pricing they can get this or...

Re: Airlines interested in Boeing MOM concept.

The 787 fuselage may be too much to use as a starting point for MOM. As mentioned 787 holds two LD3 cargo containers size by size. I think MoM only needs to carry one. Boeing may have to meet an aggressive selling price so may go with aluminum fuselage and composite wing like 777X also.

I guess BA did not shoot for the 757-200 specs with this one. Go for 4000 nautical miles and 180 seats 2 class. Looks like they added 12 seats and the range probably has decreased. I think the 737-10 will be launched. Seems like it just needs higher thrust engines, shortening landing gear like on Airbus A330 and additional fuel capacity. MoM would depend on what airlines are willing to pay. Boeing could just ask Safran to do the gear as they provide the one for the A330.

I am not sure Boeing can reduce the cost of producing the 787 further, they are already at high volume rate. Another factor is that the a330 is probably selling cheap, that also puts pressure on price BA can get for 787.

Apparently the A330/A340 main landing gear also shortens while retracting. So minimal change to 737-9 Max would be add a few inches length, LEAP1A engines, shortening landing gear, few auxiliary tanks to get 757 replacement.
