Hi all
I am looking to buy a new lens, and cannot decide between these two.
Can anybody make a reccomendation?
Harry
Compared to a prime, it does lack quality does it not?
Jump to postThanks, its a tricky one, as I need one lens that can cover between 300 and 400 with good sharpness, for less than £1000. So basically, 300 sometimes too short, 400 sometimes too long, and the 100-400 lacks quality!!
Harry
Many thanks. I am really very interested in the 400 f/5.6 too, but I go to air bases a lot, and I think that being stuck at 400 all the time, may just be a little long, so the 300 with converter is more flexible?
What about the Autofocus?
Many thanks
Harry
Hi all,
I was wondering if people could help me.
I was looking into new lenses and was wondering, which is sharper/better AF, out of the 300 f4 with a 1.4x Teleconvertor, or the 100-400 at 400mm?
Thanks
Harry
Thanks for the reply. Yes the 100-400 is a great lens, however it loses a lot of sharpness above 350. I have 2 bodies so the swapping of bodies would not be neccesary for nearby shots, as I have a very good IQ 70-300 <acronym title="Island Airlin...
Jump to postDefinately swaying to the 400. the 100-400 has been ruled out. Still unsure about how much i need IS.
How much difference does just a cheap monopod make may i ask?
Harry
OK so what would people reccomend 300 f/4 IS with 1.4X II 400 f.5,6 100-400. Jump to postBut I have heard with the TC the image quality is nowhere near that of the 400?
Would I be better with a 100-400, would this have similar quality to the 300+1.4x?
I must say I do still quite like the idea of a 400 prime though!
Harry
Hi all, I currently have a 20D 1.6x crop factor camera. I have been saving up for a while thinking of getting a 400 f/5.6. The IQ and I am not worried about IS. I m...
Jump to postWould I maybe be better with a 400mm F/5.6 and cropping a bit then?
Harry
Possibly, but 500 is preferred.
How is it different to using a 70-300 with the practise?
Harry
Thanks for the help all.
As i said this is not a purchase, just to be used of one airshow, so 500 will not always be needed..
The distance is a long distance though, so it would be reguarlaly quite a high focal length...
Does anybody have any more advice?
Harry
Hi all, I am going to Florennes airshow, and therefore I am hiring another lens, up to 500mm. I am choosing between the above two lenses, and which would people reccomend for IQ and how easy it will be to get used to the lens compared to my 70-30...
Jump to postHi All,
Looking to go to Florennes airshow as well as Evreux this year, but only have a 70-300mm Lens – will this be enough at both, not sure how far you are from the runway?
Thanks
Harry
Yes but that 70-200 is out of the question due to range + cost. So is there any more info?!
Harry
Hi all I have been set on the 75-300 iii usm for a while but today, the 70-300 is usm lens came to my attention. It is however a lot more money, and I will have to wait a bit longer in order to buy this, and was wondering is the extra price worth it. Also is the price increase due to just the <acron...
Jump to postSorry to dig up an old thread but I currently shoot RAW but often find myself filling the buffer with just 6 in the buffer at 3fps.
Should i shoot RAW or does anyone have any tips to alter my shooting style instead of just hold and hope???
Harry
Many thanks for help.
If i go onto smart sharpen (CS5 i have) what settings do I want to get it right??
And how do i use the NR on ACR? I have been told setting luminance to 50 is this right, or is there better??
Many thanks
Harry
Hi

I either make it grainy/soft and cant get it right.. And also how can i reduce noise in editing??
Harry

Harry
Hi
Where can i photograph at Malaga when Runway 31 is in use? I know there is a viewing area in the museum but is that OK? I cannot find anything else??
Thanks
Harry
Yes about 50000... bught it second hand about 1 month ago, with a warranty so didnt expect that... At least it wont cost but still a pain in the neck..
How long should it take??
Hi all I was out with my 20d today, taking pictures of aircraft. I turn it off as i was not using it, then later i turn it on again and i see Error 99 pop up. Oh dear. But then my shutter kept continiously clicking. Even when i turned it of!! Only when i took the battery out it stopped! Just clicked...

I wanted to know which will do me best for aviation??

Ok thanks So it will work?? Or not all the time?? Which Kenko convertor will I want? What difference will it make to the quality of the picture??? I want good pictures, but i dont think will ever be up to Airliners standard for a while yet anyway. So i am just concentrating it for my own benefit atm...

Jump to postWithin your budget, maybe the 550D with the 70-300 IS USM (Not the L version) Just a suggestion, but this looks like a decent setup, even though im a newbie. Jump to postI apologise for that. Basiclaly I want the best lens for around £300 second hand to go with 400d, which will get me the best military photos for that price, but would also be good to get serials.
Thanks

I suppose a camera would be better for registrations of moving objects if they had a fast shutter speed though?

Ok thanks. Well will the lens i have mentioned be better than Binos on 18x zoom?
Jump to postThanks.. Would a televoncerto ever work with it, as if i dont have enough reach would this help me to get the serials?
Remember military serials can be quite small? I would really like to get them!!!
