It worked out okay as I was able to get back to sleep, return my rental car and get to the gate in plenty of timeto catch my flight to FLL.

A bit surprised the police didn't show up as I assumed multiple guests in my hotel and others called them.

Might not recommend that if renting a car is planned. If renting a car is planned, you're screwed no matter what. A number of years ago I heard that Schinder Trucking was offering a deal where a truck driver that drove for them could choose an option to drive one full week and then be home and off the following week.

Not sure if that program is still in effect though.

Slightly off topic but has there been any proposals to close ASE and build a new airport in the valley near Basalt? I visited Aspen for the first time last year and it seemed like the area near Basalt could handle a new airport that would be safer and larger than ASE.

Probably a pipe dream though.

Back in the 70s the United States Government proposed a plan for the U.S. to completely switch to the metric system but there was such a public outcry against its implementation that the swichover was dropped.
