Some observations: -American has roughly 34% more regional aircraft than Delta. [...] Some questions -Does having more regional partners help or hurt an operation? -Does anyone know what United and American's future plans are for their substantial fleets of E140/145s? First of all I must say you’ve...Jump to post
Ah, because ALPA and DL negotiators agreed to that clause. ALPA wanted to restrict out-sourcing and by this clause it prevents regionals from creating alter-ego airlines that impinge of ALPA flying. Say, SkyWest bought a fleet of A220s and tried to code share or compete against DL on DL routes out ...Jump to post
I flew CX from HKG to JFK years ago and as I met family at a hotel in Manhattan, in walked the pilots and cabin crew from my flight. We had a good chuckle. I noticed what appeared to be one of the pilots handing out what I presumed to be per diem. Anyway, the hotel was as described above, slightly ...Jump to post
The load factors on DFW-ABI are well above the Envoy system average (both for all aircraft and for the ERJs specifically) so you can't possibly call them subpar loads. SJT does have a marginally higher year-round load factor at 82.23%, but with a lot more variability across the year compared to ABI...Jump to post
I would certainly not let you up during flight, though I can also say in my pre-piloting years I did get up front during a domestic flight in Argentina. That was 2009 and was way cool. Before or after the flight, just ask. I'd love for you to come up, check it out, and ask any questions. Just a coup...Jump to post
AA confirm that they refused to sell IG a spare part just because they are IG: https://viewfromthewing.boardingarea.com/2019/06/09/american-airlines-refuses-to-lend-part-to-air-italy-forces-35-hour-delay-for-spite/ That's not even close to what that article says. Looks like the Landor 747 is broken (or diverted?) in AUS. It's sitting up on the north cargo ramp, in a good spot to get pictures through the fence. Saw it on my way home and had to make a quick diversion to see it. I definitely haven't followed it religiously, but it's the first time I've seen it ...Jump to post
Yep. Got some clarification from my friend and he said that the scheduled 121 ops were being shuttered to focus exclusively on the more lucrative Supplemental 121 ops (ie charters). With this comes the need for a smaller pilot group, hence the decision to suspend his training midway through. He was ...Jump to post
I'm hearing that Via has shut down. I had a friend who was going through simulator training for them in Houston and they were all abruptly told to go home today and that the airline was done. I don't have specifics, but I certainly don't think anyone is surprised by this.Jump to post
Captains don't make 6 figures in 12 months. More like 65k. You're seriously uninformed in you think rj captains make 6 figures. That's not remotely true. At my regional, upgrades are around 2 years right now. A captain on year 3 pay will be making in excess of $90/hr, and it will be over $95/hr on ...Jump to post
Replace small with LOW PAID. Dude drop this already. Regional pilots are no longer low paid. No non-direct-aisle-access J seat will have a competitive amount of personal space in 2019. Take Turkish, for example. Great soft product, hard product that is stuck in the late aughts. So what's the story with the Air New Zealand 777-200 sitting on the north cargo ramp? Looks like it was operating NZ28 AKL-IAH on Friday and diverted, presumably due to weather. Curious what the plans are for this aircraft and crew. Edit: Well, looks like it's off to Auckland as NZ6001. Took off abo...Jump to post
All of Delta's and United's flights tonight are canceled. All of American's flights are operating as scheduled. Sometimes it pays to be the biggest in a destination.
Glad I already have private transport arranged to the hotel! Will make sure to stay away from the Plaza de Mayo tomorrow.
Nothing super exciting. I had an AA 763 upgauged to a 772 LAX-DFW. I was in F, coming back from Australia, so going from the old J seats on the 763 (NGBC) to a Flagship Suite was a nice change. I had a LA 767-300 downgauged to an A320 LIM-SCL. This worked out well, because it was part of an RTW tick...Jump to post
So for a 'bus gate' arrival (at FRA) the time it takes for all the passengers to get off the plane and for the bus to proceed to the terminal is after the flight has arrived, am I correct? The personal curiousity here is that I am connect at FRA and the inbound flight will likely park at a remote s...Jump to post
but there's no business case for an operating carrier to get the aircraft certified when they already have aircraft in their fleet that serve that purpose extremely well. I think that is open to discussion. The E190 seats between 98-112 passengers, the A319 up to 156. Particularly airlines with a m...Jump to post
I seriously don’t understand why there’s so much hype around AUS aside from Norwegian and condor they probably won’t be getting any new airline before dfw or IAH You do understand the European carrier presence at AUS, right? The A319 has never been certified for the approach angle of 5.5°. Yes, of course. But that is just a certification. The question is - could it be certified or are there technical aspects that make it impossible to certify the A319 (just like the E135, E170, E190, Fokker 70 or A318 can operate into ...Jump to post
How does that work in these days of cockpit security? After 9/11 I thought the pilots were supposed to be inaccessible to hijackers? Giving a key to one of the cabin crew leaves them vulnerable. That kind of "cockpit security" and inaccessible cockpit doors made flying more unsafe. 149 pe...Jump to post
We'll see. I think it is a good thing you could buy them for $US 35.000. I'd guess it has more to do with fleet utilization than actually wanting to provide a premium product on such a short segment. BOS is probably the highest-yielding destination within a certain distance from JFK that allows for quick turns between transcons. Secondarily it might be to provide some pr...Jump to post
The speculation here has really gone off the deep end. I'm perfectly fine with people not knowing things, but we need to have a little bit of common sense. Mid-air collision? Come on. I know most everyone at this event. The optics are poor, but there is nothing intentionally disrespectful about this.
This same group of people raised more than $75K for charity less than 6 months ago at AA's annual charity gala. This one clip does remotely reflect the evening or the people involved.
We're not required to have them on in cases where it could hinder visibility. It's also just a courtesy to your fellow pilots not to turn in bright flashing white lights that can ruin night vision. They don't serve much purpose on the ground, we have other lights for that.Jump to post
Nice report and a good balance between details and pictures! Thanks! I still find it somewhat sad that UA's brand new business class hard product represents no better than the 3rd best J product AA offers. They really swung and missed with this, I think, especially when you consider the removal of F.Jump to post
