Looks like there is a misunderstadning here. Vx is the speed for the best angle of climb, it has nothing to do with range. Ground effect, as the name already says, is only effective very close to the ground and has therefore no practical influence on the fuel economy of an aircraft in flight. Regard...Jump to post
That is an interesting point. I thought of it many times, but on my 700+ commercial flights it never happened to me, and I actually never heard that it happened to someone else. My solution is that I fly with a pilot case, which has only one compartment and can be locked with a 3-digit code. Regards...Jump to post
I fully agree with TriStar500. Air Berlin certainly offers one of the best products as far as service to cost ratio is concerned. When I fly to Germany I usually have the choice between Star Alliance (OS and LH) and Air Berlin. I also have the feeling t...Jump to post
"And I said, 'I'm the chairman of an airline. I'm the chairman of Qantas'. And this ... guy.. said, 'But you're a woman'." That made my day. Welcome to the 21st century... Back to the topic: When ordinary people complain about data-mining of different authorities, we usually hear "If you have nothing to hide, why bother giving the info ..." Well, same goes for (possible) CIA transports: If you have nothing...Jump to post
Come on guys, it was a good joke ... This is the greatest thread I can remember since I am a member here. It is interesting, how complicated one can think about such a simple setup. The plane will take off. Period. All that counts for the lift is the airspeed. It does not make a difference, how the plane is connected to the earth. It c...Jump to post
The only good thing is that the TSA mostly harrasses the Americans themselves. I have not been in touch with the TSA since 18 months, simply because I avoid the US. B...Jump to post
If you really want to know where TSA is standing, then compare airport security checks in Germany and in USA. Now does anyone think that flying in Germany is more dangerous that in the US? Germany has lived with terrorism for many de...Jump to post
Some details: the plane crashed about 150 meter from the Reichstag, pilot was killed. According to local police, identity and motives of the pilot are unknown. German air traffic control suggests suicide as the motive. The UL crashed in the middle of th...Jump to post
Hello Flybyguy I had just about the same problem. I was dreaming of being a pilot for 30 years, and when I finally started to take flying lessons I wanted everything to be just perfect. But believe me: At then beginning flying is much more complicated when it comes to personal skills, not so much wh...Jump to post
The weather forecast for the weekend is lousy anyway ...

I have not participated in the "why we need" - "why we do not need" the A380 so far, but now it is time to state my opinion. Of course everyone is free to raise questions about any aviation product in this forum. But for me it looks like some people across the pond simply cannot handle the fact that...Jump to post
Sorry, it's in German only. Where do you rent the aircraft? Can't you get a copy of the operator's manual there? You may also want to contact the flight school Watschinger in LOAV (Vöslau). They have a DA-20, and I think they also sell the manual. Phone: 02252 77216. You didn't miss very much on the...Jump to post
Remark concerning the constant speed propeller: that is for the Rotax engine. I don't know about the Continental.
By the way, I'll fly the Katana again tomorrow (Sunday, 24 April). Let me know if you want to come along.
"When you are behind the customs area (terminals, tarmac etc.) you are not (legally) on Swedish territory." I would like to see an expert's (lawyer's) opinion on that. I am pretty sure that a country's laws also apply to an interational airport's apron. Or do you think you could kill a ramp agent at...Jump to post
One comment to the example with Transavia (EUR 100) and KLM (EUR 109): Without the competition of Transavia KLM would be charging much more for this ticket. There were times when you could not buy a same-day return ticket from Austria to Germany on OS or...Jump to post
Kay - Flying VFR in Austria is easy and popular. Just be careful in the mountains (because if the weather), and near the airports, especially Vienna, LOWW, (because of the airspace structure). Other than that there is lot of G and E airspace where you can goof around. You can use English on every AT...Jump to post
