Restructuring is far more than buying new aircraft.

Even with the existing fleet, they can make money. Older aircraft means less fixed costs as their book-values are already down. The higher fuel burn is not necessarily a matter.

In my opinion this is not really an innovation. Norwegian is doing it, with B787 as well as Scoot. In the past, attempts for long haul LCCs failed. Air Asia X stopped flights to Europe, Oasis Hong Kong busted.
