Re: Southwest Airlines News and Discussion - 2024

Why is everyone so dead-set on WN having a major operation at DFW? Why would they want to make DFW as large, if not larger than their DAL operation? They may have stronger following and brand loyalty in Dallas than in any other market. It makes sense they could quickly turn a profit by expanding in...

Interesting bf to see the crowd that railed against DFW as the worst airport ever now being the ones hanging onto the fence to get in. Times change and DAL is not the preferred airport it once was. DFW is great especially for local customers that I expect WN is going for, arguably the centralized dr...

What debt position do we think UA will be in 10 years from now given their aircraft orders? The truth is that they have structural issues in their operation and need better management. In my 25 years of heavy flying I've never noticed once flyers upset the flight arrived 15-20 minutes early. You must not fly on AA often. Also adding to the convenience factor - Customs processing in PHX for a plane this size could probably get everyone through in 10 minutes. It’s generally less than 20 minutes max anyway. So yes, it’s more convenient to spend 10 minutes in PHX rather than the extra hour to get to SAN with 2x the park...

Re: First US carrier to TIJ (in a while)-- AA PHX-TIJ

Taxes are about $40 by air, that isn't high. It is the same cost as CBX and overall cheaper than the options of how to get to/from SAN and that is before you factor in the time that it saves compared to traversing to/from SAN or backtracking through MEX, GDL or MTY. Um, it's closer to $100 round-tr...

I don't think the TIJ-PHX local market is the target. It is TIJ-PHX-XXX. It is not an awful idea, right now the wait to cross the border is 2.5 hours and if you are flying to a destination where you would need to connect from SAN anyway it might be worth a premium to avoid the border uncertainty. NK going with B6 could still indirectly benefit WN. There’s the possibility B6 abandons a lot of the P2P flying that NK does and deploys the fleet to focus on their key markets, allowing WN to pick up where NK leaves.
