UAL 2696 (the bird with the broken wing). Just landed back at ORD at 2:25pm local, after 1:32 flight time up to central Wisconsin for a couple loops, back down the lakefront and landed on 28C. Headed back to United hanger area for now.

MDW (Midway/Chicago) tower reopened just now (1700Z). It's been a full week that the tower was shutdown. Southwest starting to increase departures and arrivals - slowly. Not sure how many flights were cancelled this past week, and imagine many will not return any time soon...

MDW (Midway/Chicago) tower is still closed as of 1800Z. A few private planes and a couple of NetJets have flown in and out in the last hour or so. Still using Elgin TRACON for approach/departure, and the tower frequency as their Unicom channel.

I stand corrected. A SWA from St. Louis just arrived at MDW, and another flight is preparing to take off. Maybe they reopened the tower. (10:55 CDT)

Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - March 2020 - Part II

And to make matters worse MDW (Midway Airport, Chicago) is still virtually shut down. The Elgin Tracon is handling flights to MDW 'until they are in visual range' and then use the tower frequency as a local Unicom. As such, Southwest is shutdown there, and in the last 30 minutes, I've seen only a si...

Just a quick seat count on today's UAL #219 - ORD to HNL. 81 in coach on the 777 (out of 336 seats). Business was full (no doubt mostly upgrades). Hope the plane had a lot of cargo going to the islands!

Illinois governor has also mandated all bars and restaurants close 'at the end of business Monday.' He didn't like all the socializing in the Chicago bars and taverns on Saturday - no one was paying any attention to 'social distancing.'

At O"hare right now. Solid overcast, and a few snow flurries. Terminal 1 (UA) ops appear normal and pretty much everything is showing normal. A couple RJ's are either delayed or cancelled...but that's pretty much every day.

Re: Winter Storm Eboni Causes Disruptions at IAH and DFW

Fun times at O'Hare today too. Heard a number of flights on final to runway 10C reporting 60-65 knots from 180 at 3000-5000 feet. Lots of 'unstable approaches' and go-arounds, especially with the RJ's. Heard of many delays and some cancellations due to heavy rain this morning, and the winds are stil...

I stand corrected on the name - Thomas Doty was indeed the correct name for the suicide bomber. He did take out a large insurance policy just before the flight, and told other he wanted to take as many with him as he could. An excellent string of information is on 'Continentalflight11.blogspot.com' ...

Continental Flight 11 - 50 Years Ago (5/22/62)

My wife's father (Robert Gach) was a passenger on Flight #11 from O'Hare to Kansas City on 5/22/12. The plane was brought down by six sticks of dynamite and crashed in a farm field in northern Missouri. A memorial service will be held this Saturday (5/26) in Unionville, <acronym title="Calm Air (Can...
