Thanks for more replies, I think for me the crop sensor is prefered purely for the extra reach, one thing I have picked up on though is an investment in better glass rather than a new body. Thank you all for the advice, there is certainly a lot to think about. I currently use a Sigma 150-600 as my main spotting lens which does give me a lot of reach, although it is a bit soft at max focal length.

I have just upgraded from the Sigma 150-500 and I have to say I am very happy with my initial results. AF is quicker and quieter and my images are noticeably sharper.
