Now adays, on modern airliners, a vast majority of take offs are reduced thrust. This saves money because there is less wear and tear on the engines.

Also proximity to the ground does not matter unless you enter what is called "ground effect" and 1000' AGL is too high for this to matter. Read about ground effect here: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_effect_in_aircraft" target=_blank>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_effect_in_aircr...

You are opening a can of worms, but here is my attempt at an answer (it may be incorrect, someone correct me if I am wrong) The max speed any aircraft can fly is where the power available curve and its drag curve cross. see power required curve (the power required for an aircraft to maintain level f...

RE: GA Portable Collision Avoidance Systems?

In our G1000 planes we have TIS, which is traffic information system. It just plots the other airplanes on the moving map, as well as their altitude + or - compared to you, and a vector arrow. It doesn't really work below 1000 feet AGL, and above that is sorta hit or miss, that and there are still p...

RE: I'm An Amateur, But Can You Give Me Advice?

Most jets that are that small don't have/need APUs, they start up electrically. Probably wouldn't need slats, could be dangerous as you could get way behind the power curve in an airplane that light, that also had slats. Move Nav lights to the wingtips, so people could see you at a perpendicular ang...

Alright I asked about it, and many times on the -145, in summer, from their Mexican destinations to Houston, they are weight restricted to basically a 45 seat jet. This is of course dependant on runway length and obstacles. I don't know what the weight for adult passengers they use is but I'd imagin...

RE: Why Is An A/c Engine Only Efficient At High Alt?

No, that's not it, much of it has to do with how much colder it is. Generally they try to fly right up until the tropopause, once you get into the stratosphere it starts to warm up again. All combustion engines are more efficient at colder temps.
