Ticket consolidators were a big part of it. If you went to Chinatown here in Seattle, travel agents had signs in the windows for RT SEA-MNL for $350 in the early 1990s, cheaper at certain times of the year.

In regards to BA specifically, didn’t someone mention that they send the least fuel efficient planes on shorter segments, reserving the newer, more efficient frames for flights that can produce the highest returns?

SEA’s constraints currently are not runway related, it’s all taxiways and terminal congestion. They’re working on it, but it’s a long ways from completion.

The reason I don’t mind the EuroWhite on this plane is the tail and engines have a fairly intricate design. I think anything more would be clutter. My guess is Fiji carries a lot of cargo inbound? The A350 ought to really help in this regards, if true.

Somewhere there is an overhead picture of a 737 and 707, I believe military versions. The difference in wings is striking. The 707 wings look like they could be made out of sheets of plywood.

All of the bid services and buying and selling of trips at my carrier is forbidden. It has resulted in people losing their jobs. Trips don’t belong to crew, they belong to the carrier.

It behooves the people who do this to remember the trips aren’t theirs, they belong to the company. Most companies have a problem with people selling something that belongs to the company. I know people at my carrier have lost their jobs over this.

After the US deregulated there were a lot of startup airlines that didn’t make it. Europe is a little later than the US in deregulation, so my guess is we’ll see similar market reaction.
