Had a friend on the flight. He said that some “less-seasoned” flyers got upset in JNB when they announced the tech stop. One older woman even got very upset because she thought the plane wouldn’t even make it to San Juan. SMH.

Makes sense, really weren’t many charter planes available that could make ACA-MEL with that many people. I thought maybe an Atlas 747, but the Crystal 777 is certainly more plush.

Any regular biz jet is going to be way too small. The last Ryder Cup charter was a 767. Its golfers, family, caddies, and other PGA staff. I bet they realistically need 100+ seats.

I think the naming rights deals on stadiums are just too expensive these days and airlines are choosing to spend the marketing dollars elsewhere. I fondly remember the Delta Center in SLC, but if you look at the dollars that were spent by Mercedes Benz in New Orleans and Atlanta it’s just crazy.

Just flew on one last night, JFK-LHR on VS10. Definitely showing their wear in the cabin. The AVOD is beyond ancient, but nice and smooth ride. Very quiet with a slow climb-out. All the trademarks of an A340.

Going up against an AF 77W daily on the same route with connections to every point on the globe. I am sure the demand is there, but I can’t imagine Air Senegal getting the premium traffic even with a significant revenue discount.

I believe they are switching up the schedule soon with regards the 763 that comes from GRU. Looking at the schedule in January, the first MCO-SLC departure in the morning switches to a 763. Would presume its the same frame.

I am fairly certain that pre-9/11, DL did fly JFK-NRT with an MD-11. I remember being there seeing multiple MD11s on the ground at once, I believe one of them was doing JFK-CAI-DXB at the time too.

I see DL 777's in SEA almost weekly. Have not noticed if they are -200ER's or -200LR but I suspect they are ER's. Keep in mind that DL did not take delivery of the first 777's until 1998. I was on the Salt Lake City Olympic painted 772 with the speed skater on the tail from ATL to PBI when it should have been a 752. Also been on an M11 and 764 on the same route subbing for much smaller equipment.

Should be interesting to see how the Pacific numbers change with DL retiring the 744 and adding the 359. The addition of ATL-PVG/ICN should help a bit, but I know the 359 certainly has less seats than the retired queen.

One person reported dead after a crash in the Gulf of Mexico. The plane was Roy Halladay's, but it is still unconfirmed whether he was piloting the plane or not. Press conference from the Pasco County Sheriff's Department at 4:30pm, but Roy Halladay is feared dead.
