I loved watching UA's stretch DC8-71's going in and out from their "banjo" gates at EWR when I was non-revving out of there on US at their gates next door back in the summer of 1989. That and seeing their stubby Boeing 747SP's there on the EWR-NRT route they had at the time.

From what I have heard the ELP-DEN service will not start until sometime next March almost 8 months away. It would not surprise me if the advance bookings don't come up to expectations they may never start the service or the flights will be short lived. Time will tell on how many of these new routes...

This thread on FAT sounds similar to the situation in ELP, similar demographics and incomes, and decline in air service. The only thing keeping ELP going these days is Southwest which has an almost 50% share of the market there.

Another difference I see with the new Eastern is it looks like they are leasing their own aircraft (newer B737-800's) versus of what the PEX 2.0 did with Vision Air using their older B737-400's.
