I had no idea about the distance, but I was surprised to read that GUM-HKG is under 5 hours on a 738. Where are they putting this plane within Japan? UA already serves GUM with the daily GUM-HNL non-stop flights plus the island hopper. There's also the connecting options at KIX or NRT.

Garuda is responding by cutting some domestic and international routes including the London (LHR) and Amsterdam (AMS) flights.

Isn't NRT-GUM like 7 hours? That's definitely outside the range of a 737 and will require a fuel stop (though I don't think there is a suitable one between Tokyo and Guam)... GUM-NRT is well within the range of a 737. GUM happens to be a good location in the Pacific where you can easily take a 3-5 ...
