MUC has an outdoor area on top of the terminal that LH uses (I forget if that is Terminal 1 or Terminal 2). It is open-air, but is behind glass. MUC also has the hill with the view of the "everybody else" terminal, with good views of the runways.

My parents have done SAN-MSP-AMS (and return) at least a couple times and enjoyed the experience. They thought it was an easy connection and prefer the "smaller" airports (like MSP) over airports like LAX, just for the relative ease of getting around.

Reno Air had a flight SFO-SNA using MD-90 that they called "Orange County Flyer". They even applied that title to the airplane. (I think the name only applied to that specific route, but it could apply to other routes).
