Re: LAX congestion getting out of control?

No worse than any other airport in my experience. It seems like AA over-scheduled their banks (maybe just optimism?) and Int’l is at the mercy of common use. DL, UA and WN don’t seem to have consistent issues. And MSC will help Int’l and DL, as DL will get priority at some TBIT North gates. Now the ...

Not forecast for the basin, but I'd argue West Hollywood is in the basin (at the cusp) and it's receiving snow today. Unlikely to impact ops at any airport, but unusual weather for SoCal to say the least. https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la- ... story.html

Re: Rumour: Oneworld to add new member 05DEC18

Would it kill anyone to actually use the airline name instead of their two letter code? Many of us have no idea outside of the major US carriers. You claim to be so knowledagble about how bad Delta is and how they are making all the wrong decisions, but don’t know the airline codes? What does one h...

Re: UA's DEN-LHR seasonal service

Any word on UAs effect on BA on this route? Just curious. There doesn't seem to be a material impact to BA based on passenger numbers. As of Aug 2018, BA was essentially flat YoY (+0.1%) for passengers in DEN, carrying a total of 133,772 so far this year. But, as we all know, passenger numbers are ...

Refinery Burnoff Near LAX (17 Sept 2018)

Didn’t see this posted elsewhere. Flew into LAX this AM and was greeted with quite the scene. Apparently a nearby refinery had a technical issue that required them to flare the stack just south of the field. Made for an interesting photo op of a departing AA A321. https://share.icloud.com/photos/056...

Re: Many Major Airports Are Near Sea Level

Typical N.Y. Times. Airport runways well above sea level can flood during torrential rains. If you are building an airport to serve a coastal city, you probably aren’t going to build it in the mountains. Anything built on reclaimed land is subject to subsidence. Kansai doesn’t need rising sea level...

Re: Gay couple allegedly bumped for straight couple...

These two guys need to get over it. You had to sit separately for a few hours. Big deal. People don't always have to make special accommodations just because of your lifestyle. She asked you to move BEFORE she even knew you were gay, just move on. By your logic, the straight couple who were second ...

No background on the 737... aka the most widely used commercial plane? The A320 is a great plane - but excluding the 737’s role in aviation history is disappointing.

DL Increases Medallion $ Spend (MQD) Thresholds

They frame it as a way to make the Medallion program more exclusive. Would be interesting to know how these (relatively) minor increases in the minimum spend will impact the number of members that qualify for the various tiers. A more cynical way to look at this is the required spend per mile versus...

DOT Secretary LaHood Resigns

Didn't see anything on here yet about this, but Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood submitted his resignation today. Under his watch, the DOT implemented a number of regulations that were anti-airline and anti-business - notably the "tarmac" rule that fines airlines for delays on the ground. Similar...

RE: ANA B787 Emergency Landing/Fleet Grounding Part 2

FAA emergency <acronym title="Avialeasing Aviation Co. (Uzbekistan)">AD</acronym> to ground the fleet is a black eye for the 787 program, no doubt. But it may be a blessing in disguise. Boeing will be able to apply whatever fix it finds universally (well to the US fleet at least) before the birds ge...
