Re: US ATC Impacts from Coronavirus Thread

SDF has 21 on Covid contact tracing. So 19 CPCs for the next week. Too easy! Just go ATC-0 during the day shift and bring back everyone for the UPS overnight push! PCT gets a level 3 cleaning all the time now. They just cleaned our lobby, ops room etc. the other day due to someone testing positive....

Re: NAV CANADA announces workforce reductions

It really is a messed up situation. I feel horrible for everyone up there who got word that they will be furloughed. The least they can do it is give them priority in the hiring process when things open back up again. I would like to reiterate that PRIVATIZATION IS BS and if I hear some garbage from...

Re: Pilot / ATC Repartee

The FAA gives us our own headsets (refurbished ones of course). Most of us use the Plantronics H31CD with the pink bippee and the push to talk that sometimes gets referred to as the "pickle". With that being said at my previous facility when it was slow we would all use a handset that look...

Re: DL Runway Incursion at JFK - Jan 10, 2020

In ATC, the hearback is just as important as the readback. The FAA is super focused on runway incursions, as they should be. I would not be surprised if there is a change in phraseology that states that a hold short instruction can not be combined with any other type of question or clearance (gate a...

Re: FAA Moves to Reduce Weather Delays at US Airports

Anybody here work in TMU somewhere that can shed more light on this project? If it's such a great idea to remove intrail spacing why hasn't it been done before? ORD has been able to run trips now for a while in a two flow configuration so you think they would have tried whatever they're conjuring up...

I just hope my brothers and sisters at ZJX and ZDC feel better soon. I know being sick is NOT fun.

Bring on the paychecks!

Re: FAA Makes Staffing Policy Changes After Vegas Controller Found Incapacitated

I wouldn't call that low staffing though. The national average is only a few percentage points higher. My facility is around ~70% and while having more people would be nice, we don't have to pull the OT list unless several people bang out. Not suggesting it's low, just that it's not the holy grail ...

Re: FAA Makes Staffing Policy Changes After Vegas Controller Found Incapacitated

Curious as to why the LAS tower facility is so popular with ATC folks... -Low cost of living/Desirable place to live -High pay (level 11) -New facility -I don't know much about the facility but most high level standalone towers have good morale and are considered 'country club' places to work. Thin...

Re: FAA Makes Staffing Policy Changes After Vegas Controller Found Incapacitated

Not enough job candidates There are plenty of candidates. Public ATC bids bring in tens of thousands of applicants. The problem is systemic *rant warning* We'll assume for a moment the FAA has a hiring goal of 1,700 applicants for FY19 (made up number). They may "hire" exactly this number...

Re: FAA Makes Staffing Policy Changes After Vegas Controller Found Incapacitated

Not sure why any of the pilots didnt just contact Vegas approach or departure during the incident and inform them of the situation. The TRACON is at the base of the tower cab and they could have easily sent someone from down there to the cab to check on her as well as (most importantly) shut off all...

Re: South Carolina aviation thread 2018

I would like to see DAL come back and serve CAE from DTW. Was a great option in the past when pax needed to connect to the northern great lakes. NWA used to fly the route and then DAL dropped early it in the early 2010s. It was flown on CRJ2s if I remember correctly. I'm glad to see DAL flying mostl...

Fast forward to 29:30 on the recording. I'm not sure I would call this a crazy go around though, AFAIK they didn't declare an emergency did they?

Re: Can Nav-Canada impose additional fee specific to Boeing aircraft overflying Canadian aerospace?

Why would NAV Canada get involved at all? From their own website - they are a private company and receive no subsidy from the Canadian government. Is there a relationship between the two? Of course. If the Canadian Government uses them in retaliation they are essentially using a private company for...

Any Potomac TRACON or ZDC controllers on here that know anymore about it want to comment? Performance based navigation is a cornerstone of Next Gen and through the use of "climb via" and "descend via" RNAV STAR's and SID's pilots fly a series of GPS way points that are charted o...

Consistency is a factor for me when booking air travel.

Are you serious?

I'm sure he is. I also prefer to consistently sit next to pretty young females on all my flights. Really MAXimizes my experience.

Re: How to be a good student pilot?

Some good advice here. I would stress a couple of things: 1. Make sure that you and your flight instructor get along well! It is important that you feel that your CFI is teaching you the way you learn best. Learning to fly is stressful and there are many things to learn. When you are shoulder to sho...

Re: VFR Flying Question

Hi there, Before you call SLC clearance (make sure you have the current departure ATIS information), you need to ask yourself if you want flight following to that airport, or just out of the Bravo. In either case you will be given a departure frequency and a squawk code. After you are cleared for ta...
