Does it really matter? As long as the airport has the ability to evict the South Terminal tenants and the only question is if/how much compensation is owed, they can proceed knowing the physical outcome won’t change, just the cost.

COVID aside, I think economic growth was significantly increasing as EU membership went from “recent innovation” to “normal history” for a lot of countries, so not having service in the 90s or 2000s is less indicative of the market’s capability to support transatlantic flights now than it used to be...

Can a loaded 764 even make it to LAX or SFO with the amount of fuel it needs to carry especially if a alternate is needed outbound from SFO? I think the argument is no one will buy new, more inefficient aircraft compared to operating existing aircraft. By the time the existing aircraft have to be replaced, the situation will be more clear, and it's unlikely less efficient new aircraft will look better then.

BOS, SEA, PHX, RDU, and CLT will now see or are expected to see the 772 on the LHR routes.

Do we still expect to see SEA-LHR on AA metal? That seems like an easy thing to keep on BA. Same with BOS.

If airlines are in perfect competition now, shouldn’t their margins be similar to other commodity providers?

It seems to me that any new route that is launched and is an immediate success was probably going to be a lesser success the year before, if they had tried it.

Easy solution: allow the customer to resell the additional leg to someone else. That way the seat gets occupied but the airline doesn’t need to overbook.

As someone who flies things like AUS-RIX having a DFW-HEL connection would be great, but I think political change in Russia is necessary before there would be enough demand for destinations unavailable via LHR or MAD.
