I've done a couple of charters and can provide some approximate numbers. What has been mentioned here so far appears to be too high. - Businessjets: usually USD 1'500-4'000 per hour, incl. classic ones with a a high fuel consumption (we have done over a dozen so far) - Narrowbodies: USD 5'000-10'000...Jump to post

Not entirely accurate this list. LAS' Cargo 721 is retired already, but there is still Waypoint Aviation's 721 EY-724 which is currently being transferred to the DRC. Also N30MP should still have a valid certificate, albeit it hasn't flown for a year or so. CH-Aviation, which is normally quite accur...Jump to post

The worst ever seat pitch I recall was the Atlant Soyuz Il-86. It was absolutely ridiculous, I could only sit there if I put both of my legs towards the neighboring seat. Impossible to sit with the legs straight.
Also most An-24 and An-26 rides were rather tight, also some Tu-154s.

So, specifically, what knowledge was gained from the design and manufacture of the Airbus A380 that would not have been achieved had the aircraft not been produced? To be able to draw a fair conclusion you need to consider the A380-specific innovations which were developed and then applied to other programs. In this regard the DNA of the A380 is found in every subsequent Airbus platform and its development cost can be spread across other programs. Commercially ...Jump to post

The Tristar had a PT6 engine for its APU. It produced bleed air all the time, but if there was no demand, or the APU bleed valve was closed, there was a surge valve on the APU that opened and blew all the excess air very noisily overboard. So we tried to not open the surge valve by selecting the re...Jump to post

The engine links are break points and the engine will detach at a certain load. In most cases this should work ok if the engines contact water simultaneously. Depends a lot on how level the airplane is upon water contact, I guess everyone remembers ET's 762 ditching asymetrically which pulled the ai...Jump to post
What's the effect of heavy rain on engine performance? The fan blades are designed in a way that any objects (water, snow, birds, any other debris) will be moved to the outer part of the fan, so that they do not enter the core stream. ET may have had nothing to do with this failure, unless there was engine maintenance done by ET itself subsequent to the shop visit.
