Re: Delta announces MD-90 retirement deadline - end 2022

It wasn't that long ago that Delta bought up nearly all the MD-90s in the world and completely refurbished them. That seems like such a waste if they are already planning to retire them. It was even more recent that we were on the verge of a cockpit update to the MD-88. They said had the update gon...

Engine fail video question

Hello all, Video here of an engine with a pretty serious problem... It’s a short video so there really isn’t any info. Has anyone seen this? What type of plane is it? I’m assuming MD-80 because of the inlet guide veins, which prevented even more damage! What airline? Where in the world? https://www....

Re: Delta 737-200 question

Not only did they want planes in a hurry, but due to timing they got low priced end of production run -200s. Sound familiar? Same thing they just did with the 739ceo and A321ceo. According to legend, Boeing gave them a generous credit on the first 11 L1011s, ships 701-711, which Boeing them re-mark...

Re: American Airlines MD-80 Retirement Discussion Thread

After AA retires their last MD80, there will still be opportunities to fly on MD80s. Delta will continue flying its MD88s, MD90s, and 717s for the next several years. I'd expect to stop seeing the MD88 on the schedule past this upcoming holiday season. The 90 may or may not last a little longer tha...

We have seen planes like the DC-8/9/10, MD-80, 737-200’s, 727s and others fly on for years after production ended and they were withdrawn from the major carriers. I get the feeling we won’t be seeing that kind of longevity with the A380... but who knows!

I wonder what the longest historical DL MD-88 flight was? A few years ago they were flying the MKE/PIT-CUN. That’s a long way! LGA-RSW is another one. While I don’t think it was ever regularly scheduled, I remember a few times they were substituted on the ATL- ELP/ABQ routes. Those are normally MD-...
