1. You answered your own question in #2, they take the Micro Four Thrids family of lenses which will take any lens that is of the Micro Four Thirds mount. However the only lenses dedicated to the Micro Four Thirds Mount are made my Olympus and Panasonic and as you state, they aren't cheap. However.....

I also would suggest going with the 70-300 IS (NOT to be confused with the rubbish 75-300). I have the 55-250 and while it is pretty cheap, the quality just isn't there and I kind of regret holding off and going for a 70-300. The 70-300 is marked improvement over the 55-250 in terms of image quality...
