I remember the promotion well. It is documented here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/travel/1985/06/30/the-challenge-50-states-in-50-days/e0233b1d-56d1-42f8-9217-a68060fa8130/ I, too, still have the timetable. I remember, as a teen, trying to map out my plan of action to accomplish...Jump to post
What class of service?
Are you traveling alone?
Will you be slowed down by lots of carry ons?
Are you able bodied?
In the earlier days of flying, airliners had full suites for their 20 hour flights across the pond. Not really necessary today.
But once travel becomes available to places other than planet earth, we will certainly see luxurious options again!
1) They would have merged with Western (not Continental) 2) Hubs would be in: EWR SLC FLL 3) Focus Cities: SAN SDF MSY Network: In addition to domestic, international routes to major Asian and European Cities. What commercial airports have you visited but never flown to?

The 747 is unique in every way. There is no questioning from afar what kind of plane you are looking at. The 777 - to most of the world (not us) could be a 787, 767, 757, 737, A320, A330, A350, etc. There’s just nothing about it that commands or demands a moniker. Perhaps the 787 comes closest becau...Jump to post
JFK is certainly a prime example of an airport with terminals built for/ by specific airlines. Certainly hub airports have massive footrprints for the dominating carrier. But they aren’t necessarily distinctive terminals. (No one says, “I’m flying out of the Delta terminal” at Atlanta.) I think of l...Jump to post

At one point in the 2000’s, UA had a one way SNA-LAX flight. Did it once and loved it. And just a couple of years ago, I did the AS milk run from Juneau to Seattle, including one leg (Wrangle to Petersburg I think) that was about 12 minutes of flight time. In the 80’s, many carriers had MIA-FLL flig...Jump to post

You will notice one particular photo taken from the observation lounge of terminal B. This is the photo with the Northwest DC 10. The Virgin Atlantic gate was on the side closer to where the photo was taken. They also had a small clubhouse adjacent to the gate, but in the non-secure zone. Was the V...Jump to post
Somewhat relevant to this thread. Here is a link to some pretty poor quality photos I have of looking at that time. I remember looking closely at PIT on a map back in the early 80’s. Geographically, it made so much sense as a hub. You could connect north/ south and east west, Midwest-south and south/west - all without going all that much out of your way. It was just that much more strategically located than Cleve...Jump to post
The current pandemic got me thinking. What other times have you had to cancel a long anticipated trip and for what reason? I had to cancel my first Concord trip because my supervisor broke his back, and I had to step in. I had to cancel the final United 747 because my husband was hit by a car. For t...Jump to post
