Definitely Boston. The depth and breadth of European 747’s in the 1980’s was vast.

The allure of the Eastern Airlines Terminal was magnificent.

The views from the observation lounge (16th floor of the control tower building) was unparalleled.

US Airline Clubs in odd outposts

I am always grateful when an airline has a club in a non hub or non focus city. There are often other factors (competition, high end travelers or high tier FF members, former hub). But sometimes, well, it is just odd. CLubs that come to mind: Orange County has both AA and UA clubs. DFW has a UA club...

I never had any love for the 757. For me they marked the transition all the airlines seemed to make out of flying widebodies on domestic routes. It used to be a given that you would fly a DC 10, l1011, or 747 between any city on either coast. Once in a while you might have a 727 From Atlanta to the ...

Folks … being a hub is not about frequency or number of gates.

It’s about being a connection center.

Airline A might have a sizable operation at a given airport that is not its hub. Airline B may have just a handful of flights at the same airport, but considers it a hub.

There are pluses and minuses with the European versus North American versions. Here in the United States, we get a bigger seat with more legroom. In Europe they get a meal and club access.

I would hardly call it insulting. But is the room for improvement? Of course!
