Re: The 737MAX has a GE90 style startup noise (but quieter)

Oh, good, so it's not just me. I've noticed this as well. There's a distinct rumble on startup once the fan gets going then once it's running there's a subtle whistle over the rest of the noise. It's really neat. I've been working the MAX for a couple of weeks now and I still haven't gotten over it....

Re: Questions about ramp work.

The ramp is a great place to work! Like just about everyone said, the most prevalent injuries tend to be neck/back/shoulder from improper lifting and the most serious are from driving and vehicles. Training is excellent across the board and there is always redundancy in safety procedures. Just alway...

Beginner Looking for Feedback

Hello, all, I've submitted a few photos here and so far haven't gotten any accepted and was wondering what I can do to improve. One of the biggest issues I'm having is with compression. I shoot with a Sony a6000, import to Photos on my iMac then export to Lightroom still RAW. Then I'll edit and expo...

Re: New 737 LED Landing Lights Question(s)

The difference is remarkable. All of our -700's and older -800's have the old bulbs and our newer -800's are coming in with the LED's. You can tell from the terminal if you have a new -800 incoming from the lights when the jet is on final. Also, pretty sure from what I've seen ours have the nose gea...

Re: Which airports have deicing equipment?

We have a deice team at KHOU, all in-house for our airline. We have 3 or 4 trucks and a decent stock of Type I with a few new (to us, at least) trucks coming in this year. We deice once or twice a year.

Shooting In RAW Absolutely Necessary?

I've read in several places that to get the most possible light and color data it is essential to make sure that you are capturing images in RAW. I am currently editing in GIMP because I don't have the extra income for PS and GIMP does not ha...

Sharpening Question

Hi, all, I have a quick question as I continue to practice editing. What techniques do you use? I've gathered that applying blanket sharpening or a mask to an entire image can create grainy areas, especially in the sky. Do most of you just find the soft areas of your photos and fix them manually usi...

RE: Pre-Screening: New To This, Need Some Help

Hmm. Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure where the compression is coming from. I'm shooting in RAW and not resizing to 1024x683 until I've finished editing. Here are some pictures I took of my dog in the shade on a nice day. These are the original photos, unedited. Just converted to JPEG and resiz...

Pre-Screening: New To This, Need Some Help

Here are some shots I took at KHOU on a pretty gloomy, rainy morning. The light was horrendous but it gave me a chance to play with settings and try some tougher edits. I guess I need help judging my edits/somewhere to get a better grasp of the mistakes I made. I don't necessarily plan to get any of...
