Interestingly, this has happened exactly on the 22-year anniversary of a hypoxia event in Australia which saw an aircraft cross almost the entire country before running out of fuel and crashing: https://aviation-safety.net/database/re ... 20000904-0Jump to post
**new post with visible pics – thanks to classicjets and atcsundevil for the help!** Hello, Welcome to my first ever trip report! I've been reading this forum since I was a teen and have often planned on doing trip reports but then once the flight rolled around, was too lazy to take photos. I forgot...Jump to post
Thanks for this review. I love reviews of extinct airlines, especially US.
What were they like to fly with, service-wise?
Wizzair seems to have suspended its flights from Budapest to Nur-Sultan until May 31, when they are scheduled to recommence at twice weekly. Since the war in Ukraine started the flight seems to have been operating once every two weeks or less, and via Kutaisi in Georgia. But now the Wizzair schedule...Jump to post
Emirates has now announced this route will commence on June 23. Same aircraft and basically the same timing. The release emphasises the cargo capacity as well. I don't believe there are any dedicated freighters on the route currently, and the other airlines are flying narrowbodies AFAIK. http://wam....Jump to post
Congrats on your first trip report.
An interesting airline.
I also used Tegel's terminal C just before the pandemic, it is an extremely underwhelming experience. Or was.
Sad though that the main terminal is out of use, it was very overcrowded but also unique.
Great report, looks like an amazing place for a holiday.
Good to see the luggage trailer set up. It was like that in Launceston up until maybe 2006/7ish and I miss the fun of everyone scrambling over the trailers to get their bags.
Not sure that TK will hurt as much. They still carry quite a bit of traffic from North America to Israel, and presumably some from Israel to Europe. EK will not compete for those passengers. The India and Southeast Asia routes is where they will compete. What about Israel to Australia and New Zeala...Jump to post
If indeed there was no issue with the flight during the first approach and the pilot flying had some sort of fixation with landing despite the unstable approach, it reminds me a bit of Garuda Flight 200: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garuda_Indonesia_Flight_200 The key NTSC finding is that the aircr...Jump to post
For those of u who may think that Iranian government took part in this sad crash, Can you tell me why they hit a plane from a foreign country with a lot of Iranian pax on ir, and a country with no issues against them? It could be plausible If the plane were American,Saudi Arabian.... The most impor...Jump to post

Weird that they’re not launching Sydney flights as they have more tourist and business potential. Is the Jewish population higher in MEL versus SYD!? Yes the Jewish community in Melbourne is larger. Also LY codeshare with QF, an agreement I assume will be updated to include some QF domestic legs fr...Jump to post
El Al is apparently going to test flights from TLV to MEL early in the new year, subject to regulatory approvals. Presumably with a 789 (the article doesn't specify the variant). They say it's about 16hr 45m to MEL and 17hr 45m return. I imagine slightly longer for having to scoot down the Red Sea (...Jump to post
Looking through AvHerald's reporting on Air Peace, I'm not sure if they're an airline I'd want to fly with... At 1nm final tower advised winds from 144 degrees at 34 knots. The NAIB wrote: "PF stated as follows: “I applied the required crosswind technique to keep the airplane flying towards th...Jump to post
This from prosecutors in the U.S. state of Georgia: Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, the Chairman, CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, has been charged with bank fraud and money laundering for moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme invol...Jump to post
Hello, I tried searching for previous topics on this and did a bit of Googling but didn't find anything... What role does the A351 play in BA's fleet? Some thoughts: - It brings BA's long haul fleet type count to 5 (4 when the 747 goes), but I thought generally speaking it is more efficient to focus...Jump to post
Nice detailed report.
Surprised anyone from outside Israel would voluntarily listen to Eyal Golan.
What is it with Glasgow and North American pilots?

Thank you so so much for this report. It's terrific to get such a detailed report from almost 20 years ago on an airline I can barely remember. I hope you enjoyed watching "CNN.dot.com." Hehe. Although in other respects the experience looked surprisingly modern. The only time I flew with A...Jump to post
For the London route, MU obtained the right to serve additional 7 weekly flights from PVG, CA have obtained the right to launch a 4 weekly flight on the route PVG-LON (compares to the 7 weekly requested), making it the second Chinese carrier on the route. CZ, Juneyao, Shanghai airlines' application...Jump to post
Weird about those footrests - I just did QF1 and there were definitely none in my row (on the lower deck) - also all the seat around us were broken in that you had to bash the button several times to get the seat to 'hold' and not fall all the way back. Did you have that problem? I was a bit skeptic...Jump to post
Thanks so much for this report! Fascinating from start to finish.
That food looks amazing.
From what I heard in Uzbekistan last year from travellers who'd dashed across Turkmenistan from Iran, it is indeed desperately poor, with legions of old ladies sweeping empty 8 lane highways etc.
"Not to be political but if I'm of Palestinian descent I'm not flying an airline full of people who generally don't like me or my people." Actually you are being political. Very political. And very stereotypical. I'm not being political, I'm being realistic. Do you think any Jewish person...Jump to post

Thanks for the throwback report.
2007 doesn't seem like that long ago - but there you have SQ 747s and even a QF 747-300!
One minor correction: Virgin Blue started flying in early 2000, I think, a year or so before Ansett collapsed.
Yet another case of a fatal plane crash with only one survivor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s ... _incidents
I know nothing about statistics but this does seem slightly strange. Last such incident was only in May, the Cubana de Aviación crash in Havana.
Also worth noting that casinos are illegal in Israel. I know (from friends) that a lot of Israelis seek out casinos when on holiday. I can imagine this selling well as part of holiday packages etc. As someone else has pointed out, I'm interested to know how LY's on-ground security will work for this...Jump to post

Thank you for these terrific photos! Surprised to see that Ansett 743 there after what must be at least 16 years. Also I see a Hellenic Imperial Airways 742... any idea how long it has been there? There was one apparently abandoned in ATH as late as summer 2017 but judging from Google Earth it is lo...Jump to post
Wow amazing to see an Ansett trip report, thanks! Those seats look amazing. My first ever flight was with Ansett LST-MEL (so it maybe have in fact been on Kendall) but I remember we were served curried sausages. That is literally my only memory of the flight. The Enya video is beautiful actually, fo...Jump to post
Interesting to see an LY report, thanks.
"Palestinian missile crisis" is a term I haven't heard before to describe the regular Hamas-Israel wars. I laughed.
Wild pricing for MEL-DOH. You wouldn't think there'd be a huge amount of direct traffic on that route. So interesting to see a RJ 788 diversion to Aqaba! Amazing scenery down there. Not surprised at the AMM experience. Before it was reconstructed a few years ago it was a serious hellhole (like one s...Jump to post
Thanks for this report. SYD-TPE on CI was the first ever intl flight I took so I have a soft spot for it. In Y+ on the A350 looks great!
Why bother paying for Y+ if you're going to be in a coma for the entire flight and not use any of the amenities/food etc?!? (re weird people you took the photo of)
Hey thanks for this report. What an adventure! Loved your pics from SYD. Even though it's only two years ago some of those types/livery combinations have already disappeared, and having three QF 747s lined up in a row is also getting rare. Tip: don't go to Australia and get coffee at McDonalds! It w...Jump to post
Wouldn't MEL and to a lesser extent SYD be up there? I don't have any statistics to hand but Australia's domestic services are typically more point-to-point than connecting, and the only significant flow of international transfer pax would be from NZ or Pacific islands, you'd think.Jump to post

After taking six legs of Hainan international and domestic recently I feel I can say with reasonable authority that they don't deserve 5 stars. The breakfast out of Karachi looks great, why were you not a fan? In general the food on Turkish looks way above average in Y.
I absolutely loved the big gold splash on Gulf's current livery. It's opulent without being tacky. The new livery is certainly not the worst replacement though.Jump to post
LY is petitioning Israel's Supreme Court to suspend Air India's flight over KSA until Israeli airlines have the same rights. Sorry no one has covered it in English yet: https://travel.walla.co.il/item/3146067Jump to post
The new terminal must be going up quickly. On Wikimapia I can't even locate the construction site.
Looks like an ambitious project.
El Al is holding a press conference on Wednesday. It may well be related to the issues being discussed here. Will be interesting to see if they have something to announce or if they just want to strengthen their complaint about unfair competition.Jump to post
You state "The problem with LY is the combination of high prices and bad service which is not surprising because this applies to more or less everything in Israel." What nonsense!
