Re: IAD Airport finally bounces back

Wasn't it reported a few years back that six new wide body gates are supposed to be built where the regional gates currently are at the end of Concourse A? That’s probably still a long way off. There would have to be a way to accommodate those 31 regional positions, and with only 6 widebody gates y...

Re: DC/VA/MD Aviation Thread - 2019

Yes, probably IAD-HND confirmation from UA. I think this would be the best bet. We already know they were awarded the route, so all that remains is the formality of actually announcing. The filing listed a 777-200ER, so it's just a shift from the NRT route. Agreed this is most likely, but I'll thro...

Z6 is used by AC, Z9 is used (fittingly) by F9, Sun Country uses Z10. US used to be on Z but moved to B after merger. I would agree with hub routes using these. EWR definitely as it has a couple E45 and 737. IAH not as much as it has a 757 and 767 on two of its flights. So maybe EWR and ORD at leas...

A few newsworthy items. First, the OAG thread this week reported that UA is extending the IAD/FCO route through November; AFAIK, the route has been strictly seasonal for years, ending in October. Second, it was reported in the UA Flights by Hub thread that UA is seeking to use three of the Z gates a...

Not surprised about the 30 million number. As dumpy as the C/D concourse is, right now there's simply not enough passengers flowing through it to justify the rebuild. Does anyone know whether UA will announce additional TATL flights for next year, or is this it? Somewhat surprised that IAD's only new flight (so far) is TLV, but then again that flight departs in the late 22:00 bank. Perhaps UA has no gates available during the main 17:00 European departure bank.

Norwegian officials visited IAD late last fall. IAD offers them something BWI probably can't: Immigration and Customs throughput. They're coming to one of the two airports, that's a near certainty, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they choose IAD. Assuming they stay solvent, that is.
