Re: MH370: Malaysia resumes search to find aircraft

That's what I do not understand. I thought the signal was just a ping. How can they know the plane was in a high speed dive at the end? It mainly has to do with the BFO (Burst Frequency Offset) aspect of the pings. The BFO supposedly went haywire at the last ping, consistent with a high speed dive....

Re: MH370: Malaysia resumes search to find aircraft

Also, items on the sea floor could be covered by a lot of silt by now - who knows if such items would be visible without stiring up the silt. The sedimentation rates out in the middle of the ocean like that are extremely slow, like on the order of 0.01 to 0.05 mm/year. If you'll recall that one shi...

Re: Shooting at Las Vegas Casino

Hmmm.... The same airplane is actually listed at faa.gov, but the tail number has changed to N145AW. Same serial number 1402, so same plane, a 2004 Cirrus SR20. Still owned by Valant LLC. They still fly it, rather often for short trips about every other week. http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/...

Re: Shooting at Las Vegas Casino

Question: is it usual for the FAA to reuse "N" numbers? I see there was another N5343M (a Cessna 152) that was "deregistered" in 2001--three years before Paddock's plane was built. http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=N5343M But if the number was r...

According to the wikipedia article, "he was a federal auditor for one year, in 1985, focusing on defense contractors. Towards the end of the 1980s, Paddock worked for three years as an internal auditor for a company that later merged to form Lockheed Martin.[16] His work career after this perio...

Re: Shooting at Las Vegas Casino

Interesting that Stephen Paddock was a licensed pilot, and owned at least two private planes, one of which was a 2004 Cirrus SR20 (the first year they made the first small craft with flat panel avionics. These things run like $300K, and are used as trainers for the US Air Force. Paddock obtained his...

Re: MH370: Malaysia set to announce resumption of search as early as this week

As to SonOfABeach's question, there are no major new leads, but they've continued to analyze the available evidence and refine their estimates of where the plane likely came down. In December of last year, the ATSB released a report concluding the most likely final position was within 25 nm of the ...

DLFREEBIRD nailed it. If Melania did not write that speech herself, then it was sabotage. OTOH, I guess if one wanted to lose a lot of altitude in a big hurry, and yet stay on the same track, probably it would be best to do a diving bank to the right, say, then left, and then right again--as opposed to pushing the nose straight down and experiencing negative g-forces?
