I live 2 miles from where parts fell. Heard the engine go (didn't see) sounded like a sonic boom. Then a very strange whine.

In hiring Tour helicopter pilots, personality was more important then performance. First, there were 50 applicants for each job. Second was the attitude that we had to retrain them to fly our way anyway. The high mimium hours were insurance driven. A 500 hour applicant might be a better choice then ...

Winds do change things so any recommendations are just best guess. Probably right side for HNL, nice city views on right downwind for the 8s. Left side for KOA, normal approach is straight in for 17; new visitors on right side are stretching out the seatbelts to look left.

Years ago at an airshow, we had to hand push a F-14. No Navy tug and A.F. couldn't/wouldn't hook up. Probably 12 of us and it was tough.
And I have turned Cessnas for 50 years by pushing down on the rear fuselage. Did it this morning :D (see handle).

NEVER, EVER ON THE STABILIZER.

As a KOA helicopter pilot I take issue with "straight up". We normally use "closed Bravo 2" for takeoff runs. Taxi A if no traffic. A helicopter needs to achieve a certain forward speed for a normal takeoff, therefor accelerating along a taxiway/runway. Like slab wing aircraft it...

Interesting. A couple of weeks ago SFO-DEN, we flew through the restricted area. This according the flight map. Cloud cover so no views. I know exactly where the restricted area is, having spent decades avoiding it north or south.

I live Upcountry, Dry Side Big Island and live on about 1/100 of his salary. Expensive, yes but you adjust your needs. By the way we live next to one of the biggest cattle ranches in the US, do not ship beef in.

I remember the first few flights in a retract, I was so excited to be flying a "big boy" aircraft that I had my hand on the gear lever much too soon. Not a big chance of forgetting to retract. Had a T210 that would occasionally self elect not to go up (or sometimes down).

I am afraid that I was a very bad young Inexperienced CFI. No one died and to my knowledge all of my old students are doing OK. After I retired I was much better at transferring wisdom to new students. NOTHING can substitute for stick & rudder experience. Too bad they can not afford me. :lol:

While having a beer with a 737-900 driver a while back; she/he said that a dispatch paperwork mistake sent them off 20K over. They were lucky to get 200fpm climb. This was a 91 not 121 (yes they do exist) non USA flight. A real brown underware moment. They would have loved to have been scaled before...
