Meals from the west coast can be much better. Surprisingly I quite enjoyed the quality and quantity of food for dinner and breakfast from SFO-CDG two years ago on UA. If quantity is an issue, you can always ask for extra food after everyone has been served.

MEX is slot restricted and Volaris has not had much success in beach routes from the US. VFR routes are their bread and butter. ABQ-CUU strikes me as a very short route for them to pull much traffic away from car and bus travel but we will see how it performs.

There is no six year limit. There is a Boeing recommended eight year interval for landing gear overhaul. Operators are free to select their own interval if their regulator approves the change.

FedEx adopted the landing gear maintenance interval from United (IIRC, may have been AA), from whom they purchased their first DC-10s. The maintenance schedule was FAA approved. It’s all in the NTSB report.

A better question, IMO, is how many Mexicans with family ties to Jalisco live in the CLT catchment area? Volaris encourages bus switching and stimulates traffic in markets where there is little demand prior to the arrival of their service (and fares).

Agreed. Volaris is very successful financially and provides a great service by offering low fares to stimulate VFR travel demand between the US and Mexico. I think charging for checked baggage makes a lot of sense. However, it would be nice if Volaris would update their schedule of fees with the price of a first checked bag.
