RE: Post Screening: Grainy

I don/t see it as soft and I don't see any grain as posted. Contrast is perfect taking into account a mostly white aircraft. I do see a halo on the cheatline though.

RE: Post Screening - The Whole Book

Vikkivyk asked so here is the raw file as a screen capture. If you look at the right hand side of the screen there are no adjustments whatsoever. Didn't touch it because it was at good as it gets - "as is". This is what has me so confused.... <a href="http://www.josesuroeditorial.com/photos/i-RjKrmc...

RE: Post Screening - The Whole Book

Thanks vikkyvik. Appreciate the input. I think it's a great photo but I wont appeal it. Too many strikes against it for whatever reason. We get some incredible light here in Florida in the spring and it is quite unusual in other parts of the world (that's why the beach shots look so incredible). Thi...

RE: Post-/pre-screening Spompert

On the first image I see the jaggies easily on the "N" of the main Logo and also see a small halo on the cheatline. I see no grain whatsoever.

On the second one my experience is that it is easy to get a soft rejection on shots from behind. Why? I have no clue.

RE: Post Screening - The Whole Book

Thanks so much Spompert. I can't see the noise myself. I'll have to look at the full res shot now. It is doubtful because this new Nikon D750 has zero noise all the way up to about ISO 1600 and this was shot at 200. Also, it's close to a full frame (75%) shot.

Thanks again!

RE: Pre-screening: High-res Upload

I would try high res images with smaller aircraft closer in where there is ample detail. Large aircraft have to be shot further away from the camera and this reduces detail. It's simple, the detail size is the same on both large and small aircraft so a smaller aircraft shot closer shows more of it. ...

I did a lot of research on this. Even if your camera is in perfect focus there are at least 10 possible motions that could still blur your images. Five of those are with the camera: un-commanded (up, down, left, right) jerking motions, and panning speed. The other five have to do with the aircraft: ...

The way they look at the images I think that the first one is borderline (it's not really backlit it's top lit). the second one is not backlit at all - great slow shutter speed image. They might reject it for contrast though.

It probably has to do with the ladder attached to the cockpit. That said I don't see anything wrong with the image, I like it a lot. Also, did you submit this as a bigger than 1200 pixel image? In my experience they don't like that at all - probably has to do with bandwidth costs. A.net upsizes imag...

I've had rejections very similar to your first one. I think the screeners don't like shots where the aircraft are not in direct sunlight. The image itself is not dark IMHO, my guess is it's the lack of direct sunlight. As for softness. I think the Air Asia in the front is sharper than the THAI A340 ...

And I forgot to mention something important. Because these images are substantially reduced, and based on my experience doing that, I set my in camera settings 2-steps down in sharpening so that when the images are reduced there are no artificial halos created by the downsizing.

I am puzzled about this one. First, I process my images pretty much all the same. That includes minimal sharpening. If an image is not sharp at 100% I throw it out.
