Traffic numbers are going to be soft for years, Frequencies will be much reduced so lots of spare slots, it makes sense to consolidate short haul traffic @ LHR.
There is little connecting traffic on the BA LGW beach fleet so no real need to maintain LGW short haul to be brutally honest.
The problem with transatlantic LCC's is that outside of the summer all the legacy carriers essentially dump economy seats into each others hubs at laughably low prices to fill seats which is made viable by the high and stable business class fares. There is money to be made undercutting in the summe...Jump to post
The only way I see a 777 coming back into service is if SYD gets the green light in the next couple of months. It's loaded for August right now, but I wouldn't hold my breath that it operates. There's enough A330s, A350s and 767s out there to take care of any international flying right now. Delta a...Jump to post
Bunches of A320/A321 of VN4 (VN, VJ, QH, BL) are spotted being grounded in SGN ... https://i.imgur.com/eP40jqD.png https://i.imgur.com/b1qrxTR.png ... and HAN : https://i.imgur.com/Yl2cgtu.png P/s: this time with the credit :D The JetStar's are 737's. I think P&W re-entering the current WB market is highly unlikely, their previous WB engine track record was hardly stellar....
RR’s offering on the 787 has had pretty substantial issues, GE have had issues with the new 777-9 engine, who would risk a punt on P&W?

BA longhaul @ MAN ‘might’ work with A321-200XLR but is it really worth the effort & investment? - I doubt it.
MAN itself is a terrible airport, surly staff, terrible security screening process, cramped terminal layout, at least T3, its an awful passenger experience.
I'm waiting for CX to suspend SEA because of their reductions, since it's the newest US destination. SEA & IAD are the two I think most at risk. I've ready many times that IAD has struggled. Now with SQ in SEA I just can't see how CX makes SEA work when DL couldn't. - Quite a few A350-1000 oper...Jump to post
I fly now with the "old" config 777-200 between LHR and BKK and it has the 9 seat abreast in economy. Maybe not the newest plane but much more comfortable then the new config with 10 abreast and bloody uncomfortable seats in economy. I hope that they keep the old config as long as possibl...Jump to post
I’d be interested in knowing where all the MAX Operators have stored their MAX’s, of the top of my head, below is a few places I know of which have some stores. - Southwest, VCV - FlyDubai, DWC - Thomson, MAN + Others - Icelandair, currently at KEF but being ferried to TLS - Norwegian, scattered th...Jump to post
Thanks Carfield, nice read & pictures as always.
Totally agree with the amenities comment, PJ’s should be served, especially on the SIN/EWR vv route, that’s a long flight - which I did enjoy, but found the catering odd.
Great report & pictures, thanks for sharing.
Mint does look a good product, must try it!
Airlines send their best aircraft on their most valuable routes. A350-1000, or any airbus wide-body for that matter, is not good enough for premium routes - What a daft thing to say, obviously a Boeing fan boy..... I would say the width of A350-1000 is not enough for a 1-2-1 F layout. F passengers e...Jump to post
Reading Australian media reports on the incident it seems the majority of the injured where not wearing seatbelts. I always leave the seatbelt on for the whole flight, and actually get annoyed if the person next to me removes mine as they could then land on me and cause injury. . - people actually ...Jump to post
Thanks for sharing.
I flew the final EWR-SIN A340-500 flight and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I recently flew the same flight as you, though in J. Flight was almost completely full, great service & food, slept a good 8-10 hours, it’s a great experience!
Great read & pictures as always Carfield, thanks for posting.
Westjet J looks good, work to be done still, but if they keep the pricing right, they can take market share.
Reading the article, I took it the death penalty was more for those flying drones or shining lights at planes, not taking pictures.Jump to post
The US 3 flying the 737 MAX planes have relatively small fleets, I expect the odd cancellation here and there with a bit of re-booking will sort the issue without too much grief?Jump to post
Quite a small J cabin vs the current High J cabin, would have expected about 80 J and a smaller Y cabin given the 744 High J is 86 seats.
Going to miss the BA 744 upper deck J cabin!
After observing this thread and many other A380 related posts not just in recent weeks but in general, it really shocks me about how much joy a large number of members are taking from seeing the A380 line close. Every opportunity some get, they will say the most ridiculously negative things about w...Jump to post
I think the Airbus order was a legacy from Continental. United are Boeing true and true... I guess that explains all those A320s that United had. To be fair, I think the A320's were all bought for TED and were just shunted to mainline when that operation went bellyup. But I do believe that post you...Jump to post
My impression is that Delta may be satisfied with the A350; that it fills a specific flight profile they have and does it well enough. However, they are not enamored with it based on the deferral of scheduled deliveries. I'm not sure anything else can really be deduced at this time. Have a great da...Jump to post

CX's A359s aircraft were uprated to 277T, and IAD is operated with an A35K not A359.
Don’t understand the point, same service but cheaper.
It would have made more sense to drop F, but offer these former F seats to their/OW higher status passengers in pad J.
The short haul catering is much improved, do like the beef salad, it is particularly good.Jump to post
Nice read and pix as always Carfield.
I saw this plane in HKG in October, must have been on crew training prior to officially entering Service.
I just want to ask because I wasn't old enough when 9/11 happened... what was it like photographing airliners back then? I've heard of stories where spotting planes was very easy and hassle-free at most airports. Quite a few even had observation decks or dedicated areas to watch planes. Then 9/11 h...Jump to post
I quite like HNL myself, the open air spaces and walkways are wonderful.
Good to see UA investing here, they are the no 1 of the big 3 to the islands.
Fantastic pictures, such a shame they don’t do tours, I’d definitely be taking one!
Wow, I did wonder what they served on the later flights, that’s a bit shocking.
Surely a small salad and a slice of pizza would be ok, it’s not as if the ticket prices are that much cheaper on the later flights!
I don’t mind just a drinks service on an hour or so flight.
Not flown BA long haul in Y for about 15 odd years, but it always seems to be pretty reasonable & I don’t recall having any complaints myself. These days it’s a mix of WTP & Club, I just feel the need for more space. Re the catering on this fligh, looks good, except the breakfast offering, w...Jump to post
