Re: LHR-CHS: How's it doing?

I have a question about the crew layover. The flight from LHR arrives on Sunday and then departs CHS that evening--obviously without the crew that flew the bird in that day. The next flight to LHR doesn't leave until Thursday. So that means that BA has to put the crew up in a hotel for four nights, ...

I wonder what the longest historical DL MD-88 flight was? I remember when they flew them as far west as PHX, but can't remember if it was from ATL or CVG. That was probably one of the longest? As somebody mentioned, they've come back on ATL-PWM after it had been -90s for over a year. I thought all ...

I recall reading somewhere that some pilots leave the landing gear down for a while when they go-around after encountering wind shear. The thought is that--should the plane lose lift and crash--the landing gear would absorb some of the impact. This could be completely off-base, but I thought I'd pas...

Delta is adding mainline and capacity to CVG-DCA. What was once 4x daily on a mix of CR7/9 goes to 3x 717. This frees up some slots for DCA-BOS. Great to see more mainline out of CVG. It looks like this change occurs in September.

Wow, that's wild.

I think this was a positioning flight. It looked like Delta sent a number of flights from airports in the Southeast (including BNA, CLT, AVL, TRI, GSP, and GSO) to CVG last night to escape the ice. I think there were three 717 flights from CLT alone.

Out of curiosity, how does the staffing for this flight work--specifically for the crew arriving in Charleston on Sunday night? Do they wait around until Thursday evening to return to LHR, or do they deadhead to a different U.S. city and then work a flight back to LHR on, say, Tuesday or Wednesday?

Interesting re: AUS-AMS. I would like to think that it is a sign of DL's ambitions in Austin, although, as DTWorld points out, it may only be related to SXSW. Indeed, the 2018 dates for SXSW (March 9-18) coincide with the four flights Delta has scheduled.
