CX690 SIN-HKG Business Class, A330 Seat: 22D Dep: 12:55 Arr: 16:32 Travelling only with hand luggage and with a mobile boarding pass, we skipped the check-in counters, which looked quite busy, and quickly headed airside. From previous experience, we knew the Dnata lounge, which CX uses ex-SIN, wasn...Jump to post
Thanks for your comments. Lucky you for getting a flight on the A350! When booking this trip, we had the option for widebody flights from HKG, but this one on the 737 fit our schedule best.
I agree, TPE is a great airport to transit in. Really calm and easy.
Hi Ryanair!!!, No, of course I didn't demand for the entertainment to be turned on. If you've read entitlement or snobbery, that's not the case at all. You're welcome to read my other trip reports and see I'm none of those things. I merely asked if it would be turned on before take off. Perhaps othe...Jump to post
Hi everyone, Finally getting around to doing trip reports from the last few months! We usually celebrate my husband's birthday in Singapore, which is a four-hour hop down from Hong Kong. This year, we decided to burn some miles and fly business class. Cathay Pacific operates half a dozen or so fligh...Jump to post
Hi everyone, Over the Christmas and new year break I went to my second home, Japan, to relax in onsen (hot springs), get some fresh, crisp air (winter in Hong Kong is so brief yet the air quality is noticeably poor) and escape the crowds in beautiful rural areas. It was an amazing trip. We flew Chin...Jump to post
Yes, I am a slow eater and had to fight to keep my meal every time the rude Hong Kong based FA swooped to take my dish. In Hong Kong, there is a local style of Cafe known for its rude, impatient waiters and I felt like I was sitting in one of those rather than business class on a gorgeous A350. I ha...Jump to post
Hi HELyes, I'm flying in July and August, so it looks like we'll miss the 787 from Helsinki. No matter, I'm kinda curious to try the A320 in business, with a proper business seat I imagine it could be quite a nice and cosy flight. And besides, I'm super excited to return to Helsinki after falling in...Jump to post
I loved reading this! Thank you for putting in the time to make it so detailed. Currently planning a trip to Finland (second time) and beyond, including Estonia, so thank you for the inspiration!Jump to post
Thanks for the mini report! I've just booked HKG-HEL on QR in J and even though it's their A320 to HEL (787 ex-HKG), I'm really excited.
Last summer I flew AY A350 in J and was really impressed by the genuine hospitality of the Finnish crew. How did you find the QR crew in comparison?
Great report! CI 's A350 looks fabulous. I actually flew CI over Christmas between HKG-FUK/HIJ (A330/737) and had no idea there was a transit lounge for CI passengers! Ended up using the Plaza Premium lounge, which was nice. Were you informed about the lounge or did you know about it already?Jump to post
Thanks for the heads up about the A330 EX-HKG!Jump to post
Really enjoyed your report! Living in HKG, I've seen how good SU fares are to Europe, even business class, but have chosen Finnair due to their Oneworld membership. How did you find the shell seat in premium economy? I flew JAL premium economy recently and their seat is similar. Really uncomfortable...Jump to post
Thanks for your trip report! I'm glad to see a direct flight between Australia and India, finally. They're sure do keep pax well fed, 2 meal services and a snack! Also nice to see water waiting in the seat pocket - some airlines only do this in premium cabins. I flew AI between HKG and DEL/BOM last ...Jump to post
Loved your report! Sad to see the decline of MH.
I flew MH A380 when I moved to HKG 3.5 years ago. I was extremely underwhelmed but there at least was no duct tape! I avoid MH ex-HKG now since they have super downgraded to 737s, as you mentioned.
Look forward to your next trip reports!
Wow, SQ's new J looks superb. Last Chinese New Year I flew SQ in economy, and on landing in HKG we walked through the new J cabin. I still remember the smell of the leather and kicking myself for booking so late that I could only justify Y. I drooled reading your report and will definitely aim to tr...Jump to post
Great, detailed report! Fantastic to see SQ serving Canberra and Wellington. I couldn't help but roll my eyes when you mentioned the mainlander tour group. Is there anywhere they don't go and disturb? One of the reasons why I fly and justify business so much now, to avoid them (I live in HKG). They ...Jump to post
Great trip report! I recently did the same flights (there were also many Thai workers in orange on my BKK-HEL flight, wonder if we were on the same one? ;) ) I really had issues with the cold and rushed Chinese service, which took me by surprise since HEL-HKG was the last of my AY flights and the on...Jump to post
Hi Moe, Thanks for your comments. Yes, the wordless taking of trays/food at restaurants or onboard really irks me! I am happy to fly economy short-haul but ex-HKG there are often tour groups which can be boisterous. I'll fly just about anything to Japan, as airfares are mystifyingly expensive ex-HKG...Jump to post
Thanks for your trip report. How disappointing to go from such a wonderful experience to such an awful one. I've never flown EY but trip reports such as yours have certainly not enticed me to do so. Hope your QR flights are more pleasant and consistent.Jump to post
Nice trip report, thanks. Is the entire cabin crew Hong Kong based? Even the Purser? Hi bastew, Unfortunately, yes. Hi, thanks for the trip report! I flew HEL-HKG/BKK-HEL on AY A350 in J last month and thought the same about the HKG based crew, the service felt kind of cold and rushed. Could be a c...Jump to post
Beautiful images of Australian landscapes! I noticed the first meal on QF wasn't on a traditional tray. How was it served?
The CX A350 seats look quite narrow were they comfortable?
Really enjoyed your TR, thanks for sharing.
Hi everyone, I've just returned to HKG after 5 glorious weeks away in Thailand and Europe. The majority of my flights were with Finnair in business class, which has become one of my favourite airlines. The service was genuine and effortless. I also fell in love with Finland, which I have already pla...Jump to post
Funny, I don't see them as premium, rather as quite tacky for a supposedly full-service airline. I'm Australian, and accustomed to QF's recycling or use of recycled materials, but on CX these wasteful and unnecessary bags are just handed out with no regard for minimising waste. We have a HUGE waste ...Jump to post
Hi Allrite, Since moving to HKG I have been keen to avoid busy cities and am keen to explore the more isolated, rural areas that I neglected when I lived there. Thank you very much for your beautiful photos of northern Honshu - looks like an amazing place and has inspired me to do some research for...Jump to post
Hi Allrite, I always enjoy your trip reports, though not of course the parts where it's difficult for you to fly. I completely understand your desire to return to Japan again and again! I lived there and probably would again if I had the same career opportunities as I do here in HKG. Since moving to...Jump to post
Wow, what a fantastic trip report! Congratulations on your wedding and it looks like you really honeymooned in style! I haven't been to Bali in years so it was interesting to see the new international airport, and the Chedi looks like a place where you can avoid the crowds that descend on Bali. What...Jump to post

Thanks for the pics. I'm taking this flight soon but in business class. How did you find the service from the cabin crew?
Hi ba-,319-131, Thanks for your comments. Thanks, mdavies06. Yes, Japanese manners really are lovely and TBH another reason why I prefer Japanese carriers when timing and fares allow. So much quieter and calmer. HK Express lets you add luggage up to 3 hours before the flight, which is good. Thanks for a fantastic trip report! I really enjoyed it.
