Clearly wake turbulence !
By the way, it predated A380 by years as I remember such occurence on a Panam A300 between ORD and JFK in 1990 !
For a long time, BA enjoyed exclusivity rights on the London-HKG route. CX had to put a very strong case to break that exclusive rights and the first B747s were purchased for that route (CX before was operating L-1011 and a few old B707). As mentioned above, BR was granted traffic rights to HKG at t...
Jump to postI believe it was the B744, introduced in 1989.
I remember B763 and A313 fitted with blue water toilets, as well as B743.
Not sure, the 77W has poor hot and high performance due to its heavily loaded wing. 789 will probably do better.

What is with Europe not expanding? The hub waves at MUC are full with only non-prime time slots available. The new IST and the ME3 thank the Nimby of MUC. MUC needs that runway to remain the regional hub that it is. Bummer it isn't happening. Out of curiosity, besides the new IST, what European air...

Jump to postAnother issue with the B747-600X was its increasing length, in order to improve the economics of the proposed aircraft.
At the end of summer 1996, it reached 85m (8m more than the B777-9), making the plane quite painful to accomodate at most big airports.
According to these local newspapers, it happened in Bonnieux, a scenic old city in the Luberon area : an outdoor fall of 10m in a small street.
Bonnieux is definitely not a typical place for a business trip, but a highly appreciated touristic area.
ADP was partly privatized in 2006 and the French Government, which still owns 50.6% of the company, is considering to sell this remaining shareholding.
Jump to postPlease remember that the British Competition Commission did not identify any competition concern between London airports until BAA was taken over in 2006 by a Spanish/Canadian/US consortium !
Jump to postI flew several times the Russian route CDG-NRT and NRT-CDG in 1988 on JL B743 (before EIS of the B744), so the main issue was not range but perestroika. Another issue with this westward route is it implies a day flight as the time difference between departure and arrival is 4 or 5 hours only, not co...

Jump to postIn matter of airport, small is beautiful ... and less expensive. A small terminal is easy to operate and user friendly, but you cannot operate 20 small terminals side by side. Jump to postFirst point : Korea will not be unified, at least in the short term. So North Korea will become an independent nation of 25 million opening to the world. Jump to postThe opening of North Korea airspace will be a game changer for South Korean aviation and will boost its competitivity : - INC is located 25km only off the DMZ, which severely impacts North approach capacity and would impeach further capacity increase at the airport - all flights to and from Europe a...
Jump to postPUS longest RWY is 3200m long, enough for supporting flights to US East coast as well as Europe by modern twin WB like A359 or B789.
The new RWY14/32 need not be longer.
Current PUS airport features a 3 200m long runway, with capability to accomodate A350 or B789 departures up to JFK, so the airport characteristics are not the issue for the development of WB services to HNL or beyond ! PUS is suffering 3 shortcomings : - a closely located 600m high hill in the landi...
Jump to postI flew frequently on UTA DC10-30, then B742, 743 and 744, and to my knowledge they never flew to DEN, although there were possible connections thru SIN and JKT.
Jump to postThe main culprit of the poor condition of DXB runways is not the A380, but the B77W : - they are more numerous than A380 - their 6 wheel main landing gear posts are smaller and more heavily loaded at MTOW than the A380's. I remember Boeing powerfull lobbying 15 years ago to get ICAO approval on a fa...
Jump to postA350-1000 : MTOW 308T, engines 2 x 97 000lb, wing area 445sqm
B778 : MTOW 352T, engines 2X 105 000lb, wing area 480sqm (?).
So the B778 has 14.3% more TOW, over a 7.9% larger wing, driven by 8.2% more powerful engines. Not a significant difference !
Most likely candidates to top ATL are DWC and IST, ahead of ICN, HKG and SIN (if they build a 4th runway). IMO PEK will not go far beyond 100 Mppa for lack of terminal capacity : please remember also that Daxin new airport will open next year. ATL also has some expansion plan of its own including a ...
