Speaking as a furloughed airline employee, the original PSP was really helpful and provided stability while we dealt with the whirlwind of covid. With that being said, the government dropped the ball on extending it in a timely manner, and we've been furloughed for going on 3 months now. A lot of pe...
Jump to postAt my airline the thrust reverser can be put on MEL and flight released in most cases. Going to LGA both thrust reversers are required, and going anywhere with a short runway (DCA, BUR, etc) both would be highly desirable. Just out of curiosity, why are both reversers required for LGA? Jump to postThe flight attendant group was informed that they may accent there uniform with accessories in teal and grey. That to me seems awfully random. Of all the colors to accent black and yellow, why choose teal and grey? Take those little tidbits and make your own assumptions. Code share with WestJet? Th...
Jump to postAs much as I love looking outside cameras could provide more angles and better views. Would having a windowless airplane really decrease maintenance costs? Wonder if it would allow for more cycles on the airframe?
Jump to postI am a United employee, but don't speak on behalf of the company. With that being said, the general feeling among United employees is shame that this happened on our airline. Regardless of the details, Mr. Munoz has taken the high ground by accepting responsibility for the incident, and we are all c...

Just curious what the part that is extended is for.

Thanks!
I like FlightRadar24 best for general spotting. It has the best interface to select any flight in the area and get full details. If I'm tracking a specific flight I like FlightAware better because you can save the flight and set notifications for when it has activity.
Jump to postIt'll blow over. These things always do. Taking my first Frontier flight from LAS to ORD in a couple weeks.
Jump to postIt may not be enough space to do simultaneous approaches. My stupid question is why aren't more airports in the US connected to their catchment areas with rail or public transit. Every city has a different excuse, but it's typically bureaucratic red tape. No one wants to pay the bill. Plus it isn't...
Jump to postDoes Silver still code share as United Express? It seems like there hasn't been much activity from them lately.
Jump to postUA from ORD would be nice. I've been wanting to go to FAT for a day, but not worth the time spent travelling through a connection.
Jump to postI'd be interested to learn more about the original purpose of intra-city flights. Were they necessary to fill the flight before a long route, for routing/positioning, used to better time banks, etc. Routes like these can't have been very profitable for airlines considering the added ground time, inc...
Jump to postI agree that airport authorities, employers, etc are typically overreacting when they come down hard on spotters. With that being said, I get that it looks suspicious if people are soliciting in/around the airport. Especially in our culture of "see something, say something" it's a good thi...
Jump to postThanks for the good information everyone. It sounds like United can sit on their hands for awhile then. I didn't realize the current aircraft had so much life left in them.
Jump to postTo address the article, I doubt Boeing will push out Airbus from UA's fleet. UA took advantage of open 737 slots to secure a steal on those 73G's from Boeing. Airbus didn't have open slots so no big deal on A319s new, hence picking them up used. It's just a matter of what was available.. I didn't r...

Jump to postI can't speak to ERJ performance as thoroughly as a pilot, but when I worked station ops I don't recall any significant weight and balance issues based only on extreme cold. I would assume the engines at least would perform more efficiently in the cold due to the lower density altitude. The performa...

Jump to postI guess it depends how motivated the passenger was to cancel the flight. If they were definitely going to cancel, refund or not, the airline would take a penalty by offering a 50% refund. If the passenger was only considering cancelling and the partial refund convinced them to do so then the airline...

Jump to postHi everyone, Hoping someone can help. I'm trying to determine what type of AirTran aircraft I flew on in 2006. It was definitely in the summer, probably June-July. Jump to postIt depends what the training requirements of the airline are. At my airline sim periods are 4 hours, and the pilot agreement dictates sim training must be between certain hours. This boils down to 5 crews/per sim/per day. This then has to be shared between recurrent and transition training.

Jump to postI like retro jets. It's boring seeing the same old liveries day in and day out. The more variety the better. Does it make sense from a business stand point? Not really. Jump to postBoth have their pros and cons in my opinion. 737: I'm not a huge fan of the classics, but I think the -700 and -800 look great. The 737-700 is one of my favorite looking aircraft. Jump to postThe 739 seems to be an airplane pushed to its limits, a sentiment I've seen shared here and multiple other places. Are the airlines are taking any sort of risk operating them? Jump to postAgree with those who say the board could use new blood, but I don't trust these hedge funds to have the long term prosperity of the airline in mind.
Jump to postIt's one thing if flight attendants are conducting a slow down by claiming safety concerns. This, however, was a one off event. It seems a bit harsh to fire them. Essentially they were refusing to work an assigned trip. I don't believe the first event constitutes termination.
Jump to postIt's unfortunate you had such poor training. I used to be a station agent at a great station, and I loved my job. It takes a long time to get comfortable in the role, however. I didn't start feeling comfortable at the gate by myself for at least 6 months.

Jump to postAirlines probably are gouging people, but they're certainly not alone. Our economy works in such a way that most services/products are sold at a mark up to what they cost.
