Re: UA Decides Not to Resume OSL

Because none of the other majors have ever dropped an Intl flight. Yet we don't have a thread on it every time it comes up. Stupidity of some of the rhetoric here. It's not stupid, it's true. UA made some very, very awful moves during the Smisek years and only now they are starting to pick up on so...

They do what they think is best for their shareholders, which is often to 'run' especially if the next marginal opportunity for the frame will add more to the bottom line when compared to 'fighting'. Re: Where is the new UAL 773

That's fair. I guess I'm just trying to illustrate just how difficult of a time it was for all of the legacies, especially for UA, and it was not the time for the US carriers to be ordering the really big widebodies. It's exciting now to at least see this country's airlines in much better financial...

What I don't agree with you entirely about is your statement that there really weren't that many widebody orders or deliveries from any US carriers in the 2000s. There is quite a lot of activity if you expand your timeframe just a bit outside of that period when UA, US, DL and NW all went through b...

Exit negotiations haven't started but the GBP dropped precipitously. That makes the U.S. a more costly destination for UK-currency travelers, and reduces receipts in USD for U.S. carriers selling tickets in GBP. http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=USD&view=1Y http://i1154.photobuc...

Re: Where is the new UAL 773

The 77W first flew in 2004. In 2004, UA was in bankruptcy, the largest single bankruptcy of any corporation in American history at that point. UA was massively "shrinking to profitability" as CEO Glenn Tilton called it at the time. This meant that UA was removing relatively new 772s and 7...

Re: Where is the new UAL 773

Just curious. Why is United so late in taking the 77Ws. Did it just fit into their fleet? Airlines have been using the 77Ws for years. Being an American carrier I would have expected them to be the first to receive it from Boeing (had there been the need). The 77W first flew in 2004. In 2004, UA wa...

EWR-MAN used to be DC10-30 then B777-200ER. Changed days. Absolutely was and definitely remember this growing up in NJ in the 1990s-early 2000s. This route can easily handle a 763, I think at least. Same with DUB. "Wow, UA TATL routes are dropping like flies." Factors include Brexit, grad...

Sad to hear. Always nice to see some presence of US airlines at OSL / Norway. Any chance of any of the other majors to want to fly to OSL ? AA, DL ? Makes sense to me. The 747 is a old dog that needs to be retired. He's got his own 757, make the mods on that instead. If not then call up Airbus and have them do it. AF2 is also 757, that's fleet commonality and isn't A.net obsessed with this? It's hard to side with Boeing these days when they just...

One thing that UA could do is cancel the A350XWB-1000 order in favor of buying 75-100 A321neoLR's, which will be used to replace UA's aging 757-200 fleet. They've already replaced most of the pmUA 757s with 739ERs. The pmCO 757s and ps 757s will be able to fly for a good while before needing replac...
