Re: Why did CO choose EWR as their TPAC Gateway instead of IAH?

On top of everything else, IAH offers little to no advantage over EWR for connections. While IAH is a good deal more west than EWR, EWR is a good deal more north than IAH (for polar route purposes this is important.). So, EWR-NRT (6732 mi) is less than 100 miles longer than IAH-NRT (6643 mi). This m...

Re: Air New Zealand to JFK?

So at this point, any major international airline which doesn't serve JFK has a huge hole in their route map. When can we see Air New Zealand starting nonstop service to JFK from Auckland? Define 'major'? AC and UA are pretty major I'd say but has a huge hole without JFK? Why is this thread specifi...

Re: Why did AA fly JFK-HND instead of ORD-HND?

Also, at the time they had those rights, they were limited to late night/early morning HND flights. IIRC, that timing worked better with east coast flights than midwest flights (although neither was great).

Re: US-Japan agree on additional Haneda slots; DOT to allocate

Manila (and most of SE Asia except SIN) is just not a business center, and therefore cannot attract the premium traffic that TYO, ICN, HKG, and SIN can. By Airliners.net legend, most of the ex-MNL traffic is Filipino VFR. So I guess the end is near for DL both MNL and SIN. Wonder why'd they'd stuck ...

Re: US-Japan agree on additional Haneda slots; DOT to allocate

From what I've read of these answers, it seems like there isn't agreement on the criteria for selection. I always thought it was supposed to be which routes best served US consumers, which to me knocks out HNL, GUM, and LAS service. It also is not supposed to be about making things "fair" ...

Re: EWR International Future

Does anyone have any understanding why there hasn't been EWR-ICN flights? There is a huge Korean-American community in Northern NJ (Bergen County in particular) and it isn't just VFR traffic - Samsung, LG, Sharp, and Hanjin, among others, have considerable hq-type operations in the state.

Re: Airline alliances at EWR

In the last year or two the DL/KL/AF JV has dropped service from EWR to both CDG and AMS (they've also dropped service from PHL to CDG). I would imagine that there isn't enough EWR-based high yield traffic to make it worth diverting resources from JFK and directly competing against UA on UA's turf. ...

Re: United Airlines CEO to Make Historic Route Announcement Tomorrow (12/12)

Maybe I'm reading too much into "historic" but a handful of route announcements don't really do it for me. Maybe a new hub/focus city, like one in the southeast?

If you take the letters "N-e-w-a-r-k" out of hint 2 you're left with a-e-l-p-t-o-n-s. You can form "to Naples" out of the remaining letters; you can't form Seoul.

Re: What is BA's strategy to hold market share at slot congested Heathrow?

British Airways do not lose sleep over market share or number of passengers... all they care about is PROFIT. If they can make the same money flying a more efficient, smaller plane with passengers paying better fares, then as BA are concerned, the less "interesting" Economy class passenge...

Re: ORD Expansion Deal - Update: AA Accuses City of Collusion w/ UA

I'm surprised Delta is OK with the move to T5. Whenever I'm in Chicago, I get to ORD via the blue line train. The O'Hare Blue Line station has easy access to Terminals 1,2,3, but not 5. I thought the blue line was popular with high-fare business traffic from downtown -- it's certainly faster than a ...
