I haven't seen any images showing the engine case with holes in it. In a contained engine failure, it is normal for pieces of the engine to come out the exhausted end. Uncontained failures refer to turbines and discs spinning off at high speed and puncturing the case of the engine. They're dangerous...

Never flown a PT6 aircraft, but my guess would be compressed air dumping the remaining fuel in the fuel nozzles into the burner can to burn off the residual gas that might have remained and clogged the fuel nozzles up.

I landed on my second flight (trained in Canada). I believe it's your skill that are judged throughout the flight, and they'll let you go to the point where they have no more confidence in you.
