Is ATL the only airport that consistently (ie: always, during busy times -- and frequently when not) does triple concurrent landings? DFW...consistently. I can look West from my home and see aircraft arriving on 17L, 17C, and 18R. I can't see the fourth, 13R, on the diag, because it's too far away....

Was visiting Founders Plaza today. Saw an EVA 777 cargo flight leave west airfield and depart midfield on 18L. Very hot day and used half the runwway. Is that usual?

As far as I know, she usually uses Flexjet and tends to fly on one of their G450s. If she was flying non-stop from the Los Angeles area to ASU, however, she'd have needed something with more range. I had a friend growing up in the 70s whose Dad was a very senior FE on a 727 at UA. He flew up and down the west coast and was home every night. And another friend’s dad was a CA on a UA DC-10. He flew overseas and was away a lot more - as one would expect. It’s good to have options.

So much for the McDonnell Douglas’ much vaunted TQMS (Total Quality Management System) they rolled out in the mid-80s. Seems that culture came over in the merger and its fruits are exposed.

It may not be a Happy New Year at DFW. Strong westerly winds are forecast which can have a dramatic effect on operations. The saving grace is the winds are expected to shift to the North by mid-afternoon.

Saw a cross-field approach to 31L around noon today. Later, I saw a 18R departure where they made a 90 degree turn to the West shortly after getting airborne. Wow.
