This is tragic accident given that the CASA 212 was about to be replaced next year. I personally know the crew and one of them became a father a few weeks ago. The whole environmental remote sensing community here in Norway feel so sorry for our friends at Kustbevakningen.

Given the short runway, why did the crew perform "several attempts" to deploy the spoilers (according to media here)? Why not initiate TOGA immediatelly when suspecting malfunction of the spolers instead of spending time operating the lever several times? One of the engines was running several minut...

I know some Merlin captains who also fly Turbo Commanders. They regard the Merlin as a very serious mini-airliner while the Commander is funny and forgiving in comparison. The view from a Commander is much better, and it has Garretts.
