Why in the world would you take an autistic 3 year old who can't wear a mask on a flight right now anyway? How utterly irresponsible and dangerous for your child, let alone others. It's absolutely right that she was removed. You have absolutely no idea why this family chose to fly. For all you know...Jump to post

Is WN likely to announce any new nonstop routes out of DAL in Thursday's schedule extension? Why add "new nonstop routes" to your suggested cities only to have them fly practically empty and lose even more money. Flights from DAL are certainly not flying practically empty... Although I wo...Jump to post
It was originally said RTS was expected to be summer 2019, then slipped, and continued to slip until the last claim of summer 2020. Now that summer 2020 is nearly over and RTS is nowhere in sight they are again pushing off the RTS to the closest possible date. I will be surprised if the Max returns...Jump to post
However, BBC says Boeing "hopes" to have the max back in the air early 2021? So another time slip? It sounds like the order lifting the grounding will happen before the end of 2020, however between the additional pilot training that needs to be undertaken plus the airline and FAA checks o...Jump to post
A bad month for WN for sure, but very interesting to note how much better their cash burn rate is relative to the big 3. It wasn’t a month, it was a Quarter. Their lack of international exposure is why their burn rate differs from the US3. Appears 2020 will be the end of the yearly profit streak fo...Jump to post

I am optimistic with the number of folks signing up for voluntary separation and extended leave, WN can avoid furloughs and layoffs. While the rebound in traffic platued due to the recent spikes, I am hopeful in the months coming it continues to rebound and WN is in the best network and financial po...Jump to post
Everyone in the US will want to go to Bali for their instagram selfies. I don't think it was that hard to get to before if you just one stop somewhere major like HKG...but I can see these flights doing well and I for one might take it.Jump to post
In good news, looks like WN is beginning to move some planes out of storage and back into service!
https://www.forbes.com/sites/danielreed/2020/06/10/with-a-strong-balance-sheet-and-finally-the-737-max-southwest-is-ready-to-clobber-rival-airlines/ another article on this topic. WN is digging in for a long fare war to take advantage of legacy weakness with a lot of cash in hand. I still don't exp...Jump to post
I think it's perfectly normal that executives fly other airlines, especially if many need to be somewhere at once. I'm just not buying the excuse that AA was full especially when flights are capped, people cancel and no show all the time right now. If he wanted to fly the AA flight (on Eagle btw) th...Jump to post
I'm sure it will get better...it's new. Parts will be improved.
Good news is I've heard fuel savings is as good or better than advertised.
This schedule is said to have been planned with 100 less older 700NG aircraft that will remain in storage. If the MAX8 gets returned to service WN will most likely Swap out one for one with the planned 700NG retirements. Also if market opportunities arise from an unfortunate fall out from another a...Jump to post
It's a realistic looking memo. Meanwhile, management has been making commitments that it will not file Chapter 11. I would put about as much faith in that statement from Doug as I would "we will never loose money again." No one could have predicted a Global Pandemic. That's exactly why do...Jump to post
Great post. Anyone thinking that WN is going to escape the carnage coming in October is not paying attention. And even if they DO operate more departures in comparison to their competitors that just means they're operating more money-losing flights. Even at load factors of 60-70% no one would be ma...Jump to post
Southwest may have a strategy adding tons of flights back quickly. But without passengers on those flights, it’s a strategy for failure. Except passengers are coming back. Even flying standby is getting tough again. Everyone likes to hate on WN in these threads, yet they post better results than th...Jump to post
I see a couple of AC MAX's are on the move today. I was shocked to hear, when I was in MZJ performing COVID-19 parking, that all the AC MAXs there still require some sorts of heavy checks for calendar driven items (not hours/cycles) and would have to go to/from Canada to get those checks done. Afte...Jump to post
My flight to Japan was canceled by Delta in mid March. I just received my refund last week. All by Credit Card.
7 days seems a little tough, but 45ish days was a little extreme!!!
I know WN was the largest carrier in the world at some point during this, does anyone know who it is now? Guessing one of the Chinese guys?Jump to post
Where is the guy that says a hub & spoke carrier will suffer less than a point to point carrier (WN?)
But I hope everything works out for my friends at AA and no serious number of job loss occurs

The Southwest model suffers greatly from the lack of a hub system. Not being able to pull down markets due to how the flights/aircraft are routed is hurting. Also like all the airlines an unencumbered asset changes in value based on the market. What might be valuable today may be worthless tomorrow...Jump to post
In fact the Max 7 (or the whole Max family) is not operable on short runways of domestic/regional airports. Minium runway length for take-off of some 120-150 seats airframes: Boeing 737-7 MAX : 7000 ft | 2100 m Embraer E190-E2 : 4760 ft | 1450 m Airbus A319-100 : 6070 ft | 1850 m ||| The neo and ce...Jump to post
Two points to counter in this thread so far: 1. Nobody wants new airplanes Sure they do, they want new efficient airplane so they can retire old, expensive airplanes to operate 2. It will take Boeing 2 years to deliver the airplanes built You really think Boeing wants to wait to get their money? Ha....Jump to post
COVID-19 means airlines want to get rid of older, expensive planes and fly newer, more efficient jets. I also agree the MAX shall continue and sneak back in as airlines rebuild from this.
The fixed version will not be the same plane that went down in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
A full row of economy seats sounds more comfortable to me!Jump to post
Hey all - just wanted to ask about a quick observation I've made via Flightradar24: a lot of WN's planes still flying throughout the system have split-scimitar winglets. Did WN prioritize flying its 737-700s with these winglets in the system, or is it merely coincidence? Does aircraft age play a fa...Jump to post

Now is clearly not the time to be selling anything due to the overall downturn in worldwide aviation. However, hypothetically if VA could find a buyer for 10 737-800’s @ $15M each plus those two 737-700’s at something cheaper, would yield another $150M+ in cash. Would that be enough to help sustain...Jump to post
Airlines want the more efficient MAX to replace their aging fleet they don't want now....from what I understand MAX RTS is still a huge priority for this year.Jump to post
AA is still assuming that people are going to want to fly on the MAX if it does RTS. The coronavirus has put the MAX out of anybody's mind except avgeeks. As somebody else said in some thread, people will be much more concerned about the aircraft being sanitized than they will be about it being a M...Jump to post
Well, my guess was pretty close. The Star Advertiser reports WN will reduce mainland flying to 2x daily OAK-HNL and interisland flights will be cut from 4x daily to 2x daily from HNL to LIH, KOA, and ITO, except to OGG which will be 3x daily. https://www.staradvertiser.com/2020/03/26/hawaii-news/sou...Jump to post
I could see WN reducing to just OAK and SJC to HNL...maybe one to OGG.
I think a few inter island flights will remain, maybe one early and one late to each of the 4 cities from HNL.
Just a guess, nothing has been decided.

If you're WN, is this a good time to happen while the fleet is already shrunk? Or is a double whammy possibly with the MAX and Coronavirus.
At least they have a lot of cash and usually weather storms pretty well. But this could be worse than 9/11 some think.
Adding Steamboat seems like a decent idea (although with the MAX how will they source it?), but to Denver??? That part makes no sense. There will be no local market at all and Southwest doesn’t even have a truly banked hub. This will lose tons of money based on any industry typical modern measure o...Jump to post
