The old 777s, for example, had reduced range, therefore they are better on shorter routes like LHR-DXB, LHR-BOS etc. Also, the savings on fuel burn are increased the longer the sector you are flying.

Regarding bottled water, Crew are loaded a specific allocation of water bottles and catering for their own consumption INFLIGHT, same as the passengers. As far as crew staying in places with unsafe water - Since when do crew stay at hotels that don't have complimentary water bottles per day?

ZK-OKI is effectively out of service and should be out to VCV before the end of the month, OKJ is basically just a ground spare with sporadic schedules as well. OKT is shortly to go into a C check, but it appears it may not be around too much longer now either.
