Re: Delta Air Lines Fleet - 2024

While we’re at it, drop the bubblegum-country-pop boarding music for something more curated and serene, and encourage FA’s to actually use the mood lighting. What’s the point in having it if the crew only sets it to white or off? This times 1000. They have done so much work to make the fleet more a...

I think the problem statement is wrong. It's not about single pilot, it should be about "computer based co-pilot". There will always be two pilots on duty for redundancy, but during the cruise segment of flight, computer based co-pilot can be the second pilot. In addition, in emergency sit...

Re: Was a possible A340-300 re-engine ever studied?

Though if some airline wanted quad engines on the plane today, I'm curious how the CFM-1A or PW-GTF 1100g will do. Is it fuel inefficient? Probably. Will it have better takeoff and climb performance? Fun thought experiment These modern fuel efficient engines should do wonders for cruise fuel burn b...

Random thoughts after reading through the thread. I believe that one advantage of the 3 spool design is improved climb performance. By "improved" I mean more power for less burn when compared to two spool designs. But climb is such a short part of a long haul flight, how much difference d...

Re: Delta A330-900 MTOW Question...

Purely anecdotal here, but with some informed participants: I've chatted with some people involved with the A339 at DL (mainly pilots and ops-not dispatch) and the plane seems to have some runway/takeoff performance weaknesses when heavy. 1. On one fairly routine MSP-CDG sector, the longest runway ...

Re: Emirates Tim Clark proposed to Airbus an A380 replacement

For EK's current fleet of double deckers to remain competitive, the best bet is to ask RR for a re-engine using ultra-fan targeted towards A350NEO.
RR is likely motivated as well due to four engine setup being more tolerant to IFSD, which is a risk for any new engine model at service entry

In the wide body segment PW has lost the battle already. GE/CFM rules the waves, with 20-25% left for RR. I'm thinking, how an airline such as FI with its transfer pax performs in comparison to the same pax flying direct? I wonder how the economics look like if you fly for example cdg-jfk or cdg-kef-jfk.
