engine shafts&bearings

Greetings, I've used the search function but was not sucessful in my search. in GA planes with ICE's the thrust (is that the same as force?) is transmitted through the crankshaft to the crank case to the airframe I think). Is the transmission of forces similar in jet engines? does the shaft of a lar...

Thanks. I looked at that but it doesn't tell me the type of plug for headphones for inflight entertainment.

UA 89

I am taking UA 89 from EWR to PEK monday September 26th in business. What kind of entertainment systems can I expect and what type of plug (adapter) should I bring for my headphones?
The UA website was not very helpful!
Thanks FFF

Great - thanks for all the replies. it seems that the last 10ft or so are not 100% instrument driven.

Altimeter

Greetings,
From which point on the plane does an altimeter measure altitude? Cockpit? somewhere along the belly? Landing gear? Depending on the plane and location the distances measured would vary greatly, no?
Thanks

RE: Tenerife, Pan Am Co Pilot Interview.

My aunt and uncle were supposed to be on that flight but she got into an argument with a person at the hotel they were staying at and got to the airport too late to get on.
The whole event sent her to therapy for quite a while. KLM gave them a gratis RT ticket........

RE: Polish Population In The U.S Declining?

Agree. As first gen immigrants integrate they move to different areas and become, simply put, Americans. It's a good sign, not a bad one. Go to Ridgewood and see how many Polish people you see. And even they are dispersing..

RE: Jet Engine Question

GTFs seem to be a patch – trying to bridge the different strengths and requirements of the bypass / fan/prop component and the turbine part of the engine. Given the high efficiency of electric motors perhaps it would be possible to drive the fans, in whatever location makes most sense, electrically,...

RE: How N1 And N2 Are Calculated?

Thanks for explaining how the RPMs are determined. But is that the same as determining N1/2/3?
How is the max actually determined?

Thanks

Jet Engine Question

First post after a long time lurking. Modern high bypass jet engines are almost shrouded prop planes where the "prop" is driven by a turbine rather than a reciprocating engine. A modern bypass engine has say a 8 or 10:1 ratio. Not too much Jet there, more fan / prop. Would it make sense to separate ...
