Aircraft parked on soft surfaces are usually parked on large thick steel plates, to distribute the load.

Shut them down for six months while both sides come to an agreement. No revenue for the company, no income for the employees. Both sides will be motivated to reach an agreement. Show me a piece of heavy equipment that travels at 500 mph at 36,000' and is built as light as possible to save on fuel, and you might have a comparison to a modern airliner. This too shall pass, and all the social media ding dongs can go rage on another issue. My last ten flights on UA were basically 100% full, with several looking for, and getting, volunteers to take a later flight.

If anyone is paying attention it is usually easy to spot NRSA (non-rev space available) travelers. Once boarding is almost complete they are the last 5-15 people getting on the airplane, filling in middle seats in E+ and whatever is left in basic economy. I see it on every flight I take.
