The RR engine issues on the 787 clearly spooked them.
I bet they got a killer deal on the NEO. Good for fleet commonality as well.
I can see Boeing pushing for plenty of 777X/787 orders plus a NMA announcement. They need all the good press they can get, and that's a good way to get it.Jump to post
Aren't flight numbers randomly generated apart from specials like BA1 In pmUA days flights in the 800 series were transpacific & 900 series were transatlantic but for the most part domestic flights were whatever was available in a particular range of flights. There are a few easter eggs out the...Jump to post
There's a new video I have not seen posted yet in review of the board. Inside landing video, still in motion: https://youtu.be/9tEwozrlSt8 This is the most chilling thing I’ve ever seen. How incredibly horrifying it must have been. By the time they came to a halt the fire was likely mid way through...Jump to post
Almost looks like the ground around the aircraft was on fire in one of the photos I saw. What an eerie sight. Wow. Prayers to the family of the victim. It seems like the news outlets reporting 11 casualties meant 1 casualty and 10 injured, or at least I hope. We will see. EDIT: Looks like 13 fatalit...Jump to post
OFFICIAL UA ANNOUNCEMENT TWEET: https://twitter.com/united/status/1120871420525993984 Included is a time lapse of the painting of their new livery! Edit: Loving the 4 colored tail design! Alright. I’m in love with the tail. The light blue globe with a gradient on the tail... it’s gorgeous. Edit: typoJump to post
I like it a lot. It’s “United,” not “Continental.” It’s their own identity and I like that. I am excited to see the two toned globe in natural light as well as with the tail light on. Hard to tell, but is there a gradient on there as well? If so, nice! Additionally, are there titles under the cockpi...Jump to post
The globe livery is out of date and does not make me think of United Airlines. United used to have great brand awareness, positive or negative. The globe does not make me think of United at all. The globe did well with PanAm. Hopefully United will introduce a new logo and branding to improve its im...Jump to post
The 787-9 is an extremely capable aircraft. Excited to see that it is being pushed more and more.Jump to post
I’ve heard that the current gear and possibly wing are maxed out at the 10. That’s why a 10ER isn’t possible without a new (very expensive) landing gear.Jump to post
Confirmed: AA will have only 20J on 788s going forward.

I'd imagine they will take their 268t A350s on order without retiring any 777s. Down the road, when the 77E needs to be replaced, they can get more A350s. When the 77L comes up for replacement in ~10-15 years, they can get higher rated A350s. (or whatever is on offer in 10-15 years)Jump to post
The 77W is still a very capable and efficient aircraft. Just because it doesn’t match 78J or A35K doesn’t mean it’s not still a good aircraft. Good that Boeing is getting more orders to bridge the gap to the X.Jump to post
Long term? Yes, most likely. But for now, the 717 is still an efficient and reliable aircraft. With 90+ in the fleet, they will be around for a long time.Jump to post
I’m late but good news for the 747! An order for five is not a lot, but it fills nearly an entire year of production.Jump to post
I bet Boeing is just getting all the UFO orders out of the way on the first day. Same with Airbus.Jump to post
The deal was really presented as a split, but : http://www.businessinsider.com/americans--airlines-buys-460-planes-boeing-airbus-2011-7?international=true&r=US&IR=T American was friendly and supportive towards Boeing, but the bottom line was clear. Boeing launched the MAX in 4 weeks for AA....Jump to post
Looks like the 797 is coming soon. Very soon. Maybe even within a month, if it follows the 787 timeline. Exciting!Jump to post
I agree on PHL/CLT-Asia flight(s), particularly TYO with the JL JV. It wouldn't shock me to see an ORD-Asia 788 flip to PHL/CLT-TYO. With them talking more about Europe, I'd expect 788s to start appearing in PHL/CLT next year for some of the 763 flying that will need to be covered as those birds ar...Jump to post
Applauding American for this decision. United and Frontier just released similar statements on their Twitter accounts.Jump to post

Some of the hilariously biased responses in here are childish and ridiculous. If we can’t handle topics like this, they should just be closed. I am a “fanboy,” as some would say for an airline, but I will never attack others or say that they’re completely wrong without evidence because they don’t lo...Jump to post

I dont get why people on this thfead keep talking about the -10 as a 77E replacement when AA has 12 more seats on thr - 9 then thr 77E. Theyd probably have about 5 less seats at a similar J seat count, so the 787-9 IS the replacement in capacity for the 77E. 789s with a similar number of J seats as...Jump to post

For AA only the -9 was being considered, not the -8, don't make up facts.
The capbility of the B787 is wasted on east coast transatlantic flying. You’re paying for a platform you use a fraction of, remember how odd it was to use the B744 on LHR-JFK once. Airbus actually put out publicity materials at one stage showing that in certain configurations and operating midhaul ...Jump to post
MD just didn’t have enough money to develop a clean sheet design, much less a VLA!Jump to post
If we assume 100kg per passenger, 30t payload is taken by the 300 passenger. That leaves 8t for cargo for a 787-9 and 16t for an A350. Not really a narrow set of routes here, but a typical flight from Asia. Even more if we take into account headwinds, temperatures & reserves. If giving up 12t c...Jump to post

I think a total game changer will be when DL puts the Delta One Suite on this route, which I think is likely to happen at some point. I think that's exceptionally unlikely and doubt it would be a game-changer even if it did happen. Even with the strongest headwind in the world JFKLAX is only 6 hour...Jump to post
