I recall it only being a few months ago it was looking increasingly likely Qantas would keep their 747s for longer than announced.

I'll forever be grateful for the short time they ran on SYD/PER sectors in mid-late 2018, which gave me an opportunity to log two before today.

The Shorts 360 (or the Xbox 360 as me and a friend used to call it) looks very strange, though I can't outright hate it.
I'm honestly not too fond of the ATL98 Carvair, though it isn't commercial.

I have seen many Qantas posters from the 60s & 70s showing some sort of service to Belgrade, that's about as much as I know regarding that.

I'm also pretty sure BA flew to Perth through Singapore until 2004.

Don't most commercial aircraft already pollute less per passenger then most cars?

Also stating the obvious here, but you can't run trains over the ocean and there aren't a whole lot of battery powered boats that can get you from Perth to New York etc. in any reasonable time frame.

Living in Perth I am best served by Oneworld (Qantas, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific all provide the services that meet most my needs) but if I was living in Houston, a HUB of United I would probably say Star and so on..

In Perth, aside from occasional freighters, yes.

747 pax service to Perth has slowly decreased with no regular flights since 2012. Qantas did a few 747 flights between SYD-PER (which I was lucky enough to fly on) throughout September last year, but since that they're gone.

I'm betting they'll release the full details for the A380 refurbishments alongside and update on the AA JV come Thursday, I'd expect them to make orders later in the year (around the August full year results).

A sad day indeed, makes you wonder how long airlines will keep them in service beyond 2021.
